NRMA rescues another koala
A boy befriends a koala in a heart-string tugging new advertising campaign from NRMA which launched over the weekend.
In the “Every Home is worth protecting” ad, created by The Monkeys and directed by Gary Freedman, the boy rescues the koala from of a power pole where it has taken refuge after being forced out of its tree by bulldozers.
NRMA is pledging to plant a tree for every new home insurance policy it sells, in a tie up with Conservation Volunteers Australia.
NRMA marketing director, Sally Kiernan, said in an email to Mumbrella: “We hope this campaign makes a very tangible contribution to the restoration and maintenance of koala habitats. We encourage all to get involved by volunteering to plant a tree that can become a future koala home.”
The campaign follows last year’s ‘Help is who we are’ ad from NRMA, which also featured the rescue of a koala.

It wouldn’t make a difference what the spin was for NRMA ads. I was an NRMA customer with several policies, for over 16 years and when I finally had to make a claim on my car that would have cost no than $2000 to fix, I was told they were going to take a cheaper option of fixing it, so therefore comprising the end result. After mentioning the 15 years of being a loyal customer I was told “loyalty doesn’t come into it”!!! The insurance company for the motorist that caused the accident came to the party and decided to fix it to the acceptable original condition – thank you YOUI.

Does NRMA now stand for National Risk-enddangered Marsupial Association?
I get the “Help” strategy but I’d call WIRES or NPWS if I saw such a situation with a koala. The sentiment is fine – but it just doesn’t fit the corporation’s raison d’etre.
With the massive road infrastructure in Sydney and Regional NSW the NRMA has been noticably quiet about destruction of habit. Actions speak louder than ads.
Further, a kid climbing an electricity pole?! Let’s say he did and was injured. I couldn’t see the NRMA (or any other insurance organisation) paying out on any policy.

You said it. Maybe NRMA/Monkeys should try a more believable angle that might maybe influence us to take out a policy.

This new ad about the boy using an aluminium ladder is totally irresponsible, encouraging people to climb a power pole with live electrical wires on it.
I am a power linesman and could not believe what this ad will encourage someone to think it is ok to climb a power pole, with a metal ladder and no harness.

I agree with Harry 100%. Irresponsible example of a child carrying out a dangerous act! Must be pulled immediately!

This brilliant add. was shot in and around two small towns in the Brisbane Valley. It brought approximately fifty hardworking, polite and cooperative people to the area for a few days. It is plain to see that it was meant to be a bit of a fairy tail but if NRMA wishes to promote themselves as well as the position of wildlife, I say all the best. Hope the Revolver Team visits this area again. Thanks.

Where is the ad?
Has it been pulled?

Notice they just say “plant a tree” and don’t mention what sort of tree – it has to be a eucalyptus tree for a koala. This advertisement is just plain rubbish. Shame on the the advertising company and their deliberately misleading advertising. If the NRMA insurance company lies about helping wildlife – will they also lie about the insurance policies they offer? I’ll make sure I take insurance from a company that doesn’t make false and misleading statements. The advertisement is fraudulent and should be removed from circulation.

How generous to plant a tree if you take out a policy. A seedling! And how much is the insurance premium. Also don’t forget the small print which states the campaign finishes in December.
