Nunn Media buys out Kruse Media Services
Media agency Nunn Media will buy out fellow Melbourne agency Kruse Media Services and expand into Sydney in the next 12 months, Mumbrella can reveal.
The major expansion by the independent agency sees Nunn Media significantly increase its billings, with the company now claiming combined billings in excess of $130m.
“There will be efficiencies with suppliers and also buying power. Each and every client will benefit from the additional volume and it will give us more credibility in the landscape,” said Matt Nunn, managing director of Nunn Media.
“We have traditionally always flown under the radar but with the size we are developing into that will have to change.”
Nunn Media claims the buyout of Kruse Media Services, whose clients include Caterpillar, Spotlight and Rockmans, makes them the largest independent media agency in Australia.
The buyout pushes Nunn Media towards the top of the Nielsen rankings for independent media agencies, although rivals TMS and Match Media both claim higher billings.
“There is some creative accounting going on with some firms,” said Nunn. “They are claiming funds ‘under management’ as billings is that sort of creative accounting but if you look at Nielsen’s top 20 volume based agencies we are the biggest independent.”
Nielsen has not issue billings rankings in 2013 following debate around whether the rankings reflected agencies full billings, including digital.
Nunn Media declined to disclose the price paid for Kruse Media Services and did not rule out redundancies as a result of bringing the two Melbourne media agencies together.
“We are going to a level of final due diligence so I can’t comment except to say now that we are making the announcement we will start interviewing staff and looking at structures and putting a transition into place,” said Nunn
The company also said the further expansion plans were underway with a move to Sydney slated in the coming months.
“It would be by acquisition or start up and we see that happening in the next six to 12 months,” he said.
“We’re excited by the opportunities presented to both us and our clients as part of the Kruse Mediabuyout. We believe that our new and existing clients will receive substantial benefits from being with an independent media buying agency with such significant billings.”
Nunn Media’s clients include Amcal, Fantastic Furniture, Godfreys and Autobarn.

Good to see Independents can still hit big billings in the post Mitchell’s era.

Well done to Matt and the team at Nunn Media. We chose Nunn’s for our media buying on the back of their strength in media strategy, but more buying power can’t hurt!
