Evergreen Advertising ad Chill Out Race DayQueer Country Pride Chill Out FestivalDaylesford’s answer to Sydney’s Mardis Gras, the gay and lesbian-friendly Chill Out Festival, has for the first time been sponsored by an ad agency.

Over 50s advertising specialist Evergreen has signed up to sponsor a run for older folk on Chill Out Race Day. The race is now known as the Evergreen Advertising Handicap.

The agency has also placed ads in the race program.

Gill Walker, Evergreen’s MD, said: “We like to do things that support the gay and lesbian community. We think having a race named after your agency must be an Australian first.”

“As an agency specialising in the 50+ market we constantly remind advertisers that people over 50 are not an homogenous group. There are many differences between people over 50+ and you must understand the nuances. They don’t all wear glasses, cardigans and have a walking stick.”

“The same mistake is often made when the media use images of the gay world and only show pink, sequins or feathers. The gay community is made up of many individuals, some in sequins and many in suits.”
