Peter Fray named as SMH publisher as Whish-Wilson exits

The shakeup at Fairfax Media has continued with Sydney Morning Herald editor-in-chief Peter Fray named as publisher, with Lloyd Whish-Wilson moving into retirement.

The changes were reported by smh.com.au.

Fray will report into new Fairfax Media metro boss Jack Matthews. Under Fray, the SMH was named as PANPA’s newspaper of the year in 2009 and 2010:

The SMH reported Fairfax chief executive Greg Hywood as saying: “Jack and I see this promotion as recognition of his strong track record of editorial excellence. Peter has done a terrific job as editor-in-chief at The Sydney Morning Herald, taking the paper to two national PANPA ‘Best Newspaper of the Year’ awards.”

Fray will also remain as editor-in-chief of the SMH.
