Philips goes with Spider-man TV ad in Australia as part of global brand campaign

Health and technology company Philips has taken to the air for the first time in Australia with a branding campaign.

philipsFocusing on the exploits of a young window cleaner who dons a Spider-man suit to bring smiles to the faces of children in a hospital ward, the campaign has been given a global rollout and is aimed at healthcare professionals.

The work, by Ogilvy & Mather in London, will get broad Australian support and represents the first time the brand has taken to TV locally with a spot not focused on product.

Philips global head of brand advertising, Eva Barrett, said the brand had been inspired by a real life story.

“Inspired by a true story, we tell the story of a window cleaner, who dresses as Spider-man to entertain ill children,” Barrett said.

“He believes that cheering them up helps them recover faster: sometimes laughter is the best medicine. It’s a wonderful example of how empathy and insight into people can make a difference. His ethos reflects ours; and we wanted to celebrate it.”

The campaign runs with the tagline: “There’s always a way to make life better” and is backed by a cover of the Lennon-McCartney hit, ‘Revolution’.

As part of the rollout in Australia the campaign will also feature editorial partnerships with The Australian Financial Review and The Guardian Australia.
