PlayersVoice inks partnership deal with Fox Sports

PlayersVoice, the athlete-generated content platform, has entered into a partnership with Fox Sports that will see the service’s content shared on the subscription TV channels.

“It’s a multi-year and multi-faceted commercial agreement,” PlayersVoice CEO Kerry McCabe, told Mumbrella. “It will include integrations of our content, our videos, podcasts or written across Fox Sports’ existing and future digital properties.”

McCabe: “Athlete-generated media is the fastest growing category in sports media globally”

The service, which launched last year, is a platform for athletes to tell their stories directly to fans in a brand-safe environment. Currently the service boasts 230 athletes.

Fox Sports chief operating officer, Peter Campbell, said about the deal: “PlayersVoice aims to create stronger ties between sportspeople and fans through unique storytelling which is a great extension to the Fox Sports and Foxtel offering.

“Fans are hungry to learn more and hear from their favourite athletes and this is what PlayersVoice has unearthed. We look forward to building a strong partnership that will deliver unique and engaging content to sports lovers.”

The company has also announced it has completed a Series A round of funding bringing on board a new group of investors including Matt Berriman, who recently stepped down as the CEO of adtech startup Unlockd.

Investors in the company’s earlier seed stage of funding included sportspeople such as tennis player Nick Kyrgios, footballers Erin Phillips, Israel Folau, Cameron Smith and Luke Hodge along with boxer Jeff Horn.

“Athlete-generated media is the fastest growing category in sports media globally,” said McCabe. “With this latest round of investment serving to cement our clear market leadership position, allowing us to build upon a foundation of industry trust and content that has resonated strongly with consumers.”
