Podcast network Earbuds launches in Melbourne

A new podcast network – Earbuds – has launched in Melbourne.

Launched by digital production company Media Creatures – who have created web TV series including Poncho and Bump – Earbuds will aim to bring listeners locally-produced podcasts.

The podcast network’s shows include comedy podcast, The Debrief, Boonta Vista Socialist Club, and Quality Time Podcast with Jean and Angus.

Tim Hamilton, director at Media Creature and creator of Earbuds, said the idea came from 10 years working in online video and web series, and seeing friends and peers beginning to make an income from their passion.

Hamilton said he and business develop manager, Nevena Spirovska, want the same to occur with podcasting.

“We wanted to come together as a collective of like-minded programs, to generate some buzz, represent a fresh voice of Melbourne youth, and make people aware of the great podcasts that exist and the captive audiences that listen,” Hamilton said.

“We have been really encouraged by how welcoming and positive the community at large has been, as our network is not only about consolidating our individual audiences to be more appealing to big advertisers, but also to help each other with marketing, pre-production, editing, studio space, filming live, or anything else that helps us all grow together and support one another whilst the industry is still finding it’s feet.”

Hamilton said the company will be attempting to find sponsors who are interested in being a part of nurturing local talent, and connecting to engaged audiences.

“Our history with web series suggests that it we work hard enough we will find the right partners who want to engage the market on this deeper level,” he added.

“Our first step, which is currently unfolding, involved grouping up existing podcasts to establish the network, and we will now be expanding on that by releasing some new programs with Melbourne’s most iconic people, places, and stories.

“I’m excited about what we have coming up and we hope that the city responds to it.”
