Priscilla Queen of the Desert duo to return with new comedy Flammable Children as Bait creators plan ‘sharks on a plane’ sequel

The celebrated filmmakers behind The Adventures of Priscilla: Queen of the Desert are to reunite reunited for a new comedy film Flammable Children with funding from Screen Australia.

Writer and director Stephan Elliott and producer Al Clark’s feature film is one of 19 feature film productions that will receive $570,000 in funding from Screen Australia.

Other than the title and genre of the feature , no other details were released although Elliott is known to have been working on a semi-autobiographical script inspired by his  Australian childhood.

Al Clark received the Australian Academy of Cinema and Television Arts Raymond Longford award for lifetime achievement last year.

Also receiving funding is Shane Danielsen’s science fiction script End of Animal, directed by Eron Sheean and set in the West Australian desert. Writer and director Jacqueline McKenzie will develop her drama King: A Street Story, and writer Melina Marchetta will adapt her bestselling novel On the Jellicoe Road for the screen with director Kate Woods.

The funding of over $570,000 will also provide three new industry internships for writer and director Miranda Nation, producer Samantha Dinning and producer Charlie Carman through the Talent Escalator Program, and support three emerging directors through the Director’s Acclaim Fund.

Director – Jessica Redenbach’s short film Tender was selected for International Competition at Clermont-Ferrand International Short Film Festival and won the ADG Award for Best Short Film in 2013. Jessica will spend time developing her television project with producers Kate Croser and Sandy Cameron in preparation for submission to broadcasters.

MIRRAH FOULKES
Director Mirrah Foulkes’ short film Dumpy Goes to the Big Smoke was nominated for Best Short Fiction Film at the AACTA Awards. Mirrah will collaborate with mentors including directors Garth Davis and David Michôd and writer Luke Davies.

PAOLA MORABITO
Director Paola Morabito’s short film I’m the One was selected for competition at the Venice International Film Festival. Paola will work with Andrew Bovell to develop her first feature film.

Writer/director Miranda Nation will spend six months working with director Kasimir Burgess and producer John Maynard on the feature film Fell.

SAMANTHA DINNING – INTERNSHIP
Producer Samantha Dinning will spend four months in London working with the development and acquisitions team at distribution and production company Element Pictures (The Guard, Shadow Dancer, Omagh).
CHARLIE CARMAN – INTERNSHIP
Producer – Charlie Carman will spend four months in Los Angeles working with producer Josh Kesselman (Courage Under Fire, Doctor Dolittle) at Thruline Entertainment/Tagline Pictures.
