Q&A remembers Leslie Nassar with live tribute from host Tony Jones at end of show
Q&A host Tony Jones last night paid tribute to the brains behind the show’s live Twitter stream, Leslie Nassar, who died in a hit and run accident in the USA over the weekend.
Jones told viewers at the end of last night’s live ABC panel show: “Before we go tonight we want to pause to remember someone whose work you see every week on Q&A but whose name you probably don’t know.
“Leslie Nassar was the engineer who created and maintained the system we use to filter, to moderate and show your tweets on screen. He was the inventive genius who made our dream of an interactive Q&A possible, blazing a trail that is now followed around the world.
“He leaves an enormous hole in our team. More importantly, he leaves a much-loved family and many, many friends.”
Jones’ comment came as a GoFundMe page set up in memory of Nassar, to help his family, raised $24,000 in less than a day.
I am so grateful to have been able to work with Wrangling Cats (Leslie’s and Andrea’s company) and experience their ability to distil technology to a state of pure functionality. I was never anything less than totally impressed with their vision of how people and technology should interact in an ideal world.
