Qantas launches inflight magazine iPad app

Qantas has launched an iPad app for inflight magazine Qantas The Australian Way.

The announcement:

Armchair travellers and globetrotters alike can now enjoy Australia’s best read and most trusted airline magazine any day, anytime, anywhere with QANTAS The Australian Way’s new iPad app.

From tomorrow (1 March), the QANTAS magazine comes in a vibrant new digital edition for the iPad, sharing its famous city guides, destination features, photo essays and first-hand travel accounts with a wider audience than ever before, in the rich magazine format Qantas passengers have come to love.

The QANTAS magazine app brings travel to life and delivers the magazine’s renowned insider knowledge. Where to find sheet music for a ukulele in London, a Michelin-starred private dining room in Hong Kong, the most scenic bicycle route around New York’s waterfront or the best cocktails in Sydney? It’s that destination savvy that earned QANTAS The Australian Way three awards in 2011 for Custom Magazine of the Year.

Readers can also use the QANTAS magazine app to create their own bespoke pocket guide: a ‘bucket list’ of destinations and desires.

QANTAS magazine and Qantas are extensively promoting the app. Marketing activity includes:

  • a high-profile cover plug on the March issue of QANTAS The Australian Way (available to 2.3 million travelling passengers each month)
  • a feature in the magazine’s ‘Upfront’ pages
  • window decals in Qantas Club Lounges in each Australian capital city
  • promotion on the qantas.com homepage from the app’s launch day as well as on The Australian Way’s Travel Insider website and in the ‘What’s New’ section of the qantas.com ‘Fly’ page
  • promotion via Qantas and Travel Insider social media channels
  • an in-flight feature during Qantas’ iconic ‘Welcome Aboard’ video message

Susan Skelly, Editor, QANTAS The Australian Way, says: “We are proud to launch this vibrant, digital version of Australia’s most popular airline magazine. The QANTAS magazine app is a milestone for a title with a track record of keeping Qantas passengers up to date.

“While Qantas passengers are still welcome to keep the award-winning print version of QANTAS The Australian Way – it is, after all, an invaluable part of a Qantas journey – we have heeded the numerous requests for subscriptions, back copies, digital files and page re-prints and created a digital version that reproduces, and adds to,  the magazine experience.”

Alan Joyce, CEO of Qantas Airways, says: “Qantas is pleased to now provide its ever popular magazine to customers as they go about their daily activities. We know our unique content will provide iPad users with a valuable resource for their travel planning.”

The QANTAS magazine app is available on the App store and is free to download. Search for ‘QANTAS magazine’.
