Qantas releases new safety video celebrating its 100-year history
From March, Qantas passengers will experience a new safety video which lasts over eight minutes and tracks the brand’s evolution over the past 10 decades.
The video, 12 months in the making, was created by Brand + Story.
It features aircraft, outfits and music from each decade, with Qantas Group CEO Alan Joyce saying the intricate and accurate details of the video should keep consumers interested and watching, even if they have seen it before.
“This safety video is a look back at the different styles of aircraft, service and uniforms that have been part of our long history. And it calls out the contribution Qantas and its people have made to aviation, like the invention of the slide raft, as well as the national carrier’s role in connecting Australia to the world,” said Joyce.
“It’s really a tribute to a century of our people, the changing styles, and our innovation. The one thing that has never changed is our commitment to safety.”
Various crew uniforms from throughout the decades were sourced from Qantas’ own collection and retired Qantas crew. The clothing for extras came from a combination of personal wardrobes and op shops in regional communities.

What a brilliant video. I had a history lesson as well as safety. Great seeing how times have changed Qantas. Still the best airline in the world in my opinion.

An eight minute safety video? That’s a special kind of twisted sadism.
Btw, nice to see wardrobe get a credit.

12 months to make and they couldn’t even bother to get the voiceover to match the dubbing at 1:06.
Not very intricate detail there Alan Joyce.

Great history lesson, but 8 minutes to retain people’s attention? Interesting there’s no visual of the A380, championed by QF for so long but now sadly scrapped.

But Paul, what about the poor old dressing table that always gets over-looked.

I’m so glad they have update the pre-flight safety demonstration. My god, That guy getting coffee in London is the worst!!
I can confirm that nothing, not even priority boarding or inflight dining, triggers me quite like this particular part of that safety video. I need only utter the two words, “Heeeyyyy Beeccc,” to get a violent reaction.
“Heeey Bec”
“Hey fellas! Two flat whites?
“Double shots mate”
“Big night last night?”
*Pretentious fake laugh*
And what typical Aussie – always gets in the front seat of cab! Sorry London coffee guy just really gets to me.
“Your aircraft has great coffee too…” WTF
