RACGP asks Australians what they want out of life to promote GP profession

The Royal Australian College of General Practitioners (RACGP) has launched a campaign to encourage medical students and junior doctors to consider a career in general practice (GP).

Created by The Shannon Company, the ad asks Australians what they want out of life and features people hiking, surfing and rock climbing.

The campaign includes six GPs from across rural and metropolitan Australia as they express their passions and what their life is like as a GP.

The stories are hosted on RACGP’s website.

Ian Forsyth, MD at The Shannon Company, said in a statement: “Much of their medical training and learning comes through a big hospital environment, with what we found was surprisingly little exposure to life as a general practitioner.

“When we highlight the options that general practice offers, in terms of being able to work in a diverse range of environments and locations, greater work-life-balance, the ability to develop caring and often lifelong relationships with patients, and the variety of the work, interest in general practice really starts to ramp up.”
