Radio Ratings: Fordham slaps down Kyle and Jackie O
The third ratings survey of 2024 marks the first time that Kyle and Jackie O’s insurrection in Melbourne will impact the ratings book, although with the pair popping onto the airwaves for just the final three of the ten survey weeks, it probably doesn’t reveal anything too significant.
So, let’s start with Melbourne.
MELBOURNE
Although none of the players in the hotly-contented FM breakfast wars look likely to take the overall crown from Ross Stevenson and Russel Howcroft at 3AW, last book saw Fifi, Fev & Nick take the FM top spot from Christian O’Connell at GOLD104.3 and then launch a splashy PR campaign – only to see Christian and the GOLD team pull back into the lead this time, with 10.4 share, compared to FOX FM’s 10 point share.
As for Kyle and Jackie O — as pointed out, they were unlikely to move the dial much in this book — but it’s worth noting KIIS actually fell 0.5% this survey in Breakfast.
With 3AW winning basically every other timeslot in the market, only Drive offers up some competition, with Carrie & Tommy on FOXFM pipping last survey’s leader Dave ‘Higgo’ Higgins on GOLD by 0.1 of a point – taking 10.6 points compared to 10.5.
SYDNEY
Ben Fordham on 2GB is again crushing Kyle and Jackie O on KIIS, moving 1.9 points ahead to command the Breakfast slot – while Kyle and Jackie drop a substantial 1.5 points.
2GB is again the top station overall. KIIS has dropped from 11 points to 10.3 this survey, while 2GB jumped from 11.9 to 13.3. Last book saw smoothfm and KIIS tied as top FM station – this time smoothfm have pulled ahead, claiming 10.7 points compared to 10.3.
In Drive, Will and Woody have on KIIS have moved further ahead of smoothfm’s Byron Webb; after taking the lead from him during last survey. Then, there was just 0.1% between them, now its 10.8 vs 10.5.
BRISBANE
B105 has remained the top station, after leapfrogging both Triple M and NOVA106.9 in the first survey to become the number one station in Brisbane, holding a 0.1 lead last book, and now putting an entire percentage point between itself and the nearest competitor, Triple M with 11.4, compared to B105’s 12.4.
Stav, Abby & Matt now have the biggest Breakfast show in Brisbane, taking a commanding 0.5 point lead over the former #1 show, Triple M Breakfast with Marto, Margaux and Dan.
B105 also holds Morning and Afternoon, but Carrie and Tommy have fallen from favour in Drive, dropping from first place and 13.7 points to second place – albeit with more listeners at 14.3. NOVA’s Ricki-Lee, Tim & Joel has snatched the lead, moving from 12.7 last book to 14.5.
ADELAIDE
Triple M has clawed back the lead in the Adelaide market, taking 13.7 points, well ahead of MIX at 12.3, who held a 1.9 point lead last book, and have fallen 2 percentage points to lose it.
Triple M’s strong performance in Breakfast is key, with Roo, Ditts & Loz sitting 4.2 points ahead of its nearest competitors at FIVEaa.
Triple M is also crushing in Morning and Afternoon segments, but are swamped in Drive, with NOVA’s Ben, Liam and Belle at 12.7% battling it out with Will & Woody at MIX , who hold 12.2 percentage of the listeners.
PERTH
Oh, my! MIX 94.5 held the title of Perth’s top station for the first two surveys of the year, but have fallen to third place, as 96FM takes the lead with 14.4 points, just ahead of NOVA’s 14.3. MIX, meanwhile, has tumbled from first and 15.3 to 11.9.
NOVA’s Nathan, Nat & Shaun are 4.7 points ahead in Breakfast, with a commanding 17.4% of the market, while Ricki-Lee, Tim & Joel are ruling Drive, also for NOVA, pulling 1.3 points ahead of MIX 94.5’s Carrie & Tommy.

No surprises. Koyle and Jaquie Zero are far too “Sydney” for the Melbourne market. Glossy on the surface, but no substance, class or culture underneath. They will wear thin very quickly in Melbourne.

Pity the Sydney data wasn’t shown.
