Nova100’s breakfast team Dave Hughes and Kate Langbroek has claimed the number one FM breakfast rank in Melbourne, according to the Nielsen radio ratings released today.

The breakfast show grew its share from 8.3 per cent to 8.4 per cent, overtaking the previous number 1 FM breakfast program Triple M’s Hot Breakfast whose audience dropped by a share point of 0.6.

The boost in ratings follows the duo announcing they will be leaving the Nova 100 show after 12 years, earlier this month.

The final Hughesy & Kate show will air on Friday November 29.

Nova100 is owned by DMG Australia.

DMG group programming director Paul Jackson told Mumbrella: “We want to celebrate Hughesy and Kate and have them finish on a high.” DMG will attempt to avoid word leaking on Hughesy & Kate’s replacements until later in the year. Asked whether a decision had been made, Jackson told Mumbrella: “We’re very confident for the future.”

Triple M’s Hot Breakfast with Eddie McGuire, Mick Molloy and Luke Darcy’s audience dropped from 8.9 per cent to 8.3 per cent.

FoxFM’s breakfast duo Matt Tilley and Jo Stanley continued to slide, moving from an audience share of 8.4 per cent to 7.9 per cent for this ratings period.

Triple M and FoxFM are owned by Southern Cross Austereo.

SCA group programming director Guy Dobson told Mumbrella: “We are all upset Eddie is not number one this time, but it is still a very strong number.”

AM breakfast dominated the Melbourne market with 3AW’s Breakfast with Ross and John taking out the overall number one ranking with a 19.5 per cent share of the audience. ABC774’s Breakfast with Red Symon’s was ranked second overall with an audience share of 14.8 per cent.

In the 4pm to 7pm time slot, ABC774’s Drive with Rafael Epstein beat out 3AW’s Drive with Tom Elliot for the number one spot. ABC774 increased its audience share from 10.6 per cent to 11.5 per cent while 3AW’s share dropped from 11.6 per cent to 11.2 per cent.

Despite a share point drop of 1.4, FoxFM’s national Fifi and Jules show was the highest ranked FM drive program with an audience share of 10.2 per cent. Nova 100’s national Meshel, Tim and Marty are nipping at FoxFM’s heels with an audience share of 9.9 per cent.

FoxFM’s evening programming of the Dan and Maz Show, the Bump Show and all the Hits on FoxFM struggled to maintain its audience experiencing a share drop point of 2.6. The evening timeslot now holds a 8.3 per cent audience share.

In overall Monday to Friday share, 3AW maintained its number one spot with an audience share of 13.9 per cent. ABC774 is not far behind with a share of 12.5 per cent while in the FM markets, FoxFM continues its reign as number 1 despite a share point drop of 0.6.
