Radio ratings: Sydney – Austereo stays on top
Austereo’s 2Day FM remains the dominant Sydney music station while 2GB has retained the AM crown in the latest set of radio ratings published this morning.
2GB has a 14.3% share of the listening market according to the ratings from Nielsen. 2Day FM has 10.1%.
DMG’s rebranded Classic rock barely moved – up just 0.1% from 2.7% to 2.8%.
Austereo’s Triple M was up from 4.3% to 4.9%
In the competitive breakfast slot, The Kyle & Jackie O show remains the number one music station, although it fell by 0.8% to an 11.8% share.
Nova’s breakfast show – which sees Ricki-Lee Coulter depart at the end of the year – was up from 7.2% to 7.5%.
Meanwhile the clear leader at breakfast remains 2GB’s Alan Jones with a 17.7% share, down slightly on the last suirvey’s 18%.
In drivetime, 2Day FM’s Hamish & Andy, who finish their daily slot sat the end of the year, remained number one in Sydney with 13%.
Austereo boss Guy Dobson told Mumbrella: “We’re pretty happy with things. Hamish & Andy held up well and our next priority is Triple M, where I think we’ve got some more growth yet to come.”

I read on MediaSpy that in March DMG announced made the following statment about Classic Rock ““In building these new stations we knew we needed a simple, focused music concept that would appeal to the 35-54 audience. Classic Rock 95.3FM and Classic Rock 91.5FM provides exactly that and will be a celebration of an era of music which evokes enormous passion from adult listeners.”
Are they serious?
Classic Irrelevance more like it.

Yep…I dont know how many more times I can say the same thing about Classic Rock and the management of it. Last survey really does seem to have been on the mark without any anomalies and this survey proves that. Barring the first few survey’s of vega it is now rating the worst ever. If there wasn’t a clear cut message sent to dmg and Classic Rock management in Survey #6 there should be now. But going on past history…nothing will change and they will say they are happy with a 0.1 increase even though they have lost 20000 in cume.
Yep, Classic Rock no improvement, no anomaliesin this survey again, no announcers and still no audience. If it was an animal you woud put it out of it’s misery.

So exactly how many listeners do Kyle and Jackie O have? The numbers are always expressed as percentages. Is that to cover up that there are really very few people listneing?? Are the exact numbers ever published?

Hi Dave,
yep, the number of listeners is published as ‘Cumulative Audience’. The above figures are just a percentage of the listening audience.
Kyle and Jackie have 653,000 listeners each week – up 28,000 from last radio survey.
You can see the whole breakdown here:

DMG paid $108 000 000 for the 95.3 frequency and htey have no idea how to use it.
Radio national (2RN) and ABCFM rate higher.
They have had five years and all they can muster is 2.8% of the total audience.
Seriously – they are in the wrong industry.

“Sydney’s only radio station with no announcers or soul – Classic Rock 95.3”
There is a rumour doing the rounds that DMG has bought into Channel 10. To save money they plan to stop broadcasting pictures.

LOL Nick!!! That’s very funny….
Dave, 2Dayfm would have no concerns on promoting their cume I dare say. They have 1,049,000 listeners every week All people 10+! Put it this way, 2GB have just 6000 more listeners every week Mon-Sun 5:30-midnight than what the 2Dayfm Breakfast Show have every week Mon- Fri 5:30am-9:00am! 2Dayfm are a powerhouse. Personally I cant listen to the Breakfast Show but many many many are!

Austereo certainly do know how to run a radio station. More radio stations in Sydney tune into 104.1 than any other station.
If you want to look a DMG – that’s another picture altogether. As Pete in Melbourne says – five years on and 95.3 is a complete embarasment.
