Radio ratings: Syd – 2GB posts lowest share; Melb – FoxFM takes crown from ARN; Bris – 97.3FM regains breakfast lead

Sydney: 2GB posts lowest share in nearly a decade as Smooth loses top spot in FM heap

2GB posted its lowest Monday to Friday audience share of the year for survey 8 after claiming their 100th consecutive win in the previous survey.

The talkback station posted a share of 11.3%, down 1.7 share points from 13%. The share is 2GB’s lowest share since the Macquarie Radio Network merger with Fairfax Radio Network. It is believed to be 2GB’s lowest share in nearly a decade.

In breakfast, Alan Jones saw his share slide by 2.4 points from 16.9% to 14.5%. The breakfast presenter has been on indefinite leave since November 21. Survey 8 covers September 25 to Dec 3. In drive, 2GB posted an audience share of 9.2%.

ABC702 reported a steady Monday to Sunday audience share of 9% with the channel’s breakfast show up 0.1 point to a share of 10.8%.

In drive, ABC702 was down 0.1 point to 9.4%. Meanwhile, in the FM heap, Nova Entertainment’s SmoothFM has lost its top spot, with KiisFM reigning supreme in the final survey of the year.

KiisFM grabbed an audience share of 9%, down 0.1 share points while SmoothFM saw its Monday to Sunday total share slump by 0.9 points from 9.7% in the previous survey to 8.8% share.

Smooth rival WSFM claimed third place overall in the FM heap, boosting its share by 1.4 points from 6.9% to 8.3%.

Nova Entertainment remained steady with a share of 7.3% as did Triple M with a share of 4.9%.

Southern Cross Austereo’s woes did not improve in the final survey with 2DayFM’s total audience share slipping by 0.2 share points to 4.4% while Triple M remained steady on a share of 4.9%.

In breakfast, Kiis FM’s Kyle Sandilands and Jackie ‘O’ Henderson managed 10.5%, down on the previous survey’s 10.8% while Australian Radio Network stablemates Brendan Jones and Amanda Keller grew their share by 1.7 share points to a share of 8.7%.

Nova’s Ryan Fitzgerald and Michael ‘Wippa’ Wipfli grabbed third place with a share of 71.%, up 0.7 share points while SmoothFM’s Bogart Torelli and Glenn Daniel claimed a share of 6.7%, steady on survey 7.

In drive, KiisFM’s Dave Hughes and Kate Langbroek finished the year on top with a share of 9.5% ahead of Nova’s Kate Ritchie, Tim Blackwell and Marty Sheargold and Smooth’s Byron Webb which tied for second place with a share of 9.1%.

Adelaide: Mix’s drive time woes continue as they fall to fourth position

Mix 102.3’s catastrophic decline in the competitive drive time slot has continued with Hughsey & Kate, who topped the survey as recently as August, now in fourth position.

Mix’s drive time duo suffered a 2.4 point decline, which follows last survey’s two point drop, leaving them with 9.4% audience share in the final survey of the year. This puts Hughsey & Kate well behind Hit 107’s Hamish & Andy (13.2%); Nova 91.1’s Kate, Tim and Marty (11.9%); and Triple M 104.7’s Jars & Louie (11.1%).adelaide-overall

Despite also experiencing a decline in breakfast, falling from 12.8 to 11.2% market share, Mix remains on top of the FM radio market in Adelaide with 12.9% overall. The Hit network is its closest rival with 10.9%, followed by Nova with 10.1%.

Mix’s Jodie & Soda maintained their FM breakfast lead, with Triple M’s Roo & Ditts, who climbed from 9.3 to 9.7% audience share their closest competitor. Hit 107’s breakfast show had 9.4%, with Nova suffering a 1.3 point decline, taking them down to 8.7%

It was a solid survey for ABC891, which increased audience share in all sessions, except evenings (0.2 point decline). The station has an 11.9% overall market share and 16.8% of the breakfast market.

Perth: The race tightens as MIX slips across breakfast and drive

The race has tightened between Mix 94.5 and competitors Nova93.7 and Hit92.9 with the last survey of the year revealing a 15.7% share with a 1.2 point loss.

The radio channel still holds the top spot ahead of Nova and Hit who managed 11.8% share and 11.4% shares, respectively. Mix saw a breakfast loss of 2.1 points for Mix’s Clairsy, Matt & Kymba managing a share of 12.5%.

In the seventh survey, the program was holding the lead at 14.6%.

Hit’s Heidi Will and Woody dropped 1 rating point to 10.4% while Nova’s breakfast program with Nathan Nat & Shaun gained 0.4 points jumping to 12.3%.

Mix’s drive program with Lisa and Pete, dominated the seventh radio ratings but saw a drop for the last survey of the year, losing 1.8 points and slipping to 16.6%

While the program still led drive, it managed to shorten the gap between Mix, Nova and Hit.

Nova’s Kate, Tim and Marty climbed 0.8 points with a share of 13.7% just ahead of Hit’s Hamish and Andy who managed to gain 0.7 points climbing to 13.6%.

While Hamish and Andy’s drive program increased in the ratings, it did not suggest significant change, despite the duo’s announcement they will finish up on radio at the end of 2017.

On AM, ABC 702 continued its domination with an 0.5 rating point increase and a share of 9.1% to finish off the year. 6PR also climbed 0.6 points managing a share of 8.2%.

Veteran Brisbane broadcaster Robin Bailey has earned a pyrrhic victory just weeks after leaving 97.3FM after her contract was not renewed, with the breakfast show regaining the top slot in the final ratings of the year.

Bailey has signed with rival 104.5 Triple M, and will join the breakfast team with of Greg Martin and Ed Kavalee next year.radio-survey-8-brisbane-people-10

Despite failing to come to terms with her former station, Bailey’s breakfast show with Terry Hansen and Bob Gallagher returned to number one, leapfrogging Nova106.9 with a gain of 0.6 to finish the year with a share of 13.1%.

Nova’s time at the top in breakfast with Ash, Kip & Luttsy was short-lived, having narrowly won in the penultimate survey of the year, they slipped 0.4 to record a share of 12.2%.

Triple M’s team dead heated with Hit 105’s Stave, Abby and Osher, with Triple M up 0.9 to 8.9% as the Hit team lost 0.1 points.

The final survey was bad news for Nova overall, as it surrendered its lead with a drop of 0.9 points to finish with 12.6, allowing a surge of 1.5 points by 97.3FM to hand it the victory.radio-survey-8-brisbane-breakfast

Hit 105 held third plaver, with overall numbers down slightly by 0.4 points to end with 10.4%.

ABC612 had an overall gain of 1 point, to surge ahead of AM rival 4KQ, which finished on 8.8% after a drop of 0.3 points.

Melbourne: Fox FM reclaims top spot as Smooth bumps to second place.

Southern Cross Austereo’s Fox FM has won the FM ratings crown in the final survey from the year as rival Australian Radio Network Gold falls to third place leaving the second place podium open for Smooth FM after an audience increase of 1.4 share points.

Survey Eight has seen Fox FM continue to increase its audience and remain in first position for total people as it gained 0.5 points to 10.6%, while third place holder Gold increased 0.6 points, still not enough to beat Smooth who overtook the station in overall audience with 9.0%.

The SCA channel Triple M claimed the fourth place position, falling 0.8 points in the survey to 6.9%. Nova held its fifth place position remaining stagnant in numbers and staying on 6.4% with KiisFM not far behind on 6.0% as it gained 0.2 points.

The breakfast time slot saw Fox FM’s Fifi, Dave and Fev kick Triple M’s ‘Hot Breakfast Team’ Eddie McGuire, Mick Molloy and Luke Darcy from their winning position as they gained 0.9 points to 9.4. Triple M fell 1.9 points to 8.0% in the breakfast timeslot costing them first place as they fell to second second spot.

Nova’s Chrissie Swan, Sam Pang and Jonathan Brown came in third with 6.4% as they fell 0.6 points whereas Gold’s Jo & Lehmo came in fourth with 6.3% jumping 0.7 points tying with Smooth’s Glenn Daniel and Bogart Torelli 0.8 point jump.

While KiisFM trailed behind on 6.1% jumping 0.3 points to fifth position.

In the drive battle Hamish and Andy’s program managed a whopping 14.8% with their 1.5 point jump beating Smooth FM’s 0.9% jump to 8.2%.

Gold’s Gavin Miller jumped 0.9 points to 8.1% beating Nova’s 8.0% with Kate Ritchie, Tim Blackwell and Marty Sheargold.

KiisFm’s Dave Hughes and Kate Langbroek fell 0.1 points 7.0 while Triple M dropped 0.9 points to 6.7% in front of Triple J’s 4.7%.

In the AM battle 3AW won in total audience with 13.7 jumping 0.1% with ABC774 coming in second with 9.6%.

The breakfast AM battle saw 3AW’s Ross and John again take the trophy with 18.9% moving up 1.1 points while and ABC’s774 come in second with 11.3%.

And in drive 3AW again took home the golden spot with 10.0% falling 2.1 points as ABC managed 7.8% also falling 0.2 points.
