Realestate.com.au partners with eBay
Realestate.com.au has joined forces with eBay in a deal which will see the property website’s listings appear on the auction site.
The announcement:
Australia’s biggest property portal realestate.com.au has announced a partnership with leading online marketplace eBay.com.au.
The deal, which went live today, means more and more property seekers will be able to access the popular property site via eBay’s real estate channel, providing an additional touch point to help house hunters find that dream home faster.
Henry Ruiz, General Manager Consumer Experience and Product Marketing for realestate.com.au said the strategic alliance with eBay is an important partnership that helps give consumers access to property information when and where they want. It also further consolidates the company’s position as the number one real estate website in Australia.
“We are pleased to be associated with eBay as it provides yet another channel for consumers and customers to engage with our brand. This deal forms part of our overall content strategy and will help address Australians’ insatiable appetite for property,” said Henry.
realestate.com.au’s recently updated website will give the 5.8 million Australians who visit eBay each month the opportunity to access a myriad tools and enhanced features to help house hunters find their dream property, whether they are looking to buy, rent or sell.
Deborah Sharkey Managing Director eBay Australia & New Zealand Pty Ltd indicated the deal with realestate.com.au provides eBay users with convenient access to review property listings.
“Providing broader, complementary offerings to eBay users is important. realestate.com.au’s comprehensive property listings and information delivers relevant content for eBay users,” she said.
The deal with eBay comes months after realestate.com.au announced a similar deal with online publisher Yahoo!7. During the month of May realestate.com.au attracted about 6 million unique browsers to its site.

I find it hard to believe a sizeable number of people are browsing eBay for real-estate, though I’d love to see numbers.
It’s not like property is an impulse buy, prime for cross selling against most of eBay’s content.

A link on ebay to realestate.com.au? I was expecting more, slightly disappointed.

Linking to ebay may sound like a good idea in terms of traffic, but as Matthew has indicated the proportion that is targeted traffic I would suspect is pretty marginal. I wondered however if as a high PR website it would assist in terms of backlinking SEO?

As an agent subscriber to RE, we kind of like the new deal as it might get us new leads but we’ve been hoping for google base/real estate to come up with new partnerships as well as this one is free and RE it’s not

I think this is a great move for both. With the shift to online that’s happening in almost every industry, it makes sense that real estate would move online as well. Obviously people still want to see what they’re buying, but getting together with eBay will help more RE properties be seen. It will also probably help RE’s online presence.
