The Bachelor sees audience plummet for recap show as Big Brother also drops

The BachelorTen’s The Bachelor last night saw its audience fall from 774,000 last week to 640,000 for an episode at 7.30pm which featured eliminated Bachelorettes reuniting for a discussion where they recapped their experiences on the show, ahead of the upcoming finale.

The Bachelor was not the only key franchise to slip, with Nine’s Big Brother also down week on week, with 618,000 viewers, compared to 634,000 viewers, for the nomination episode at 8.40pm, according to OzTam overnight metro ratings.

Despite the fall, Nine still won the night on the back of The Block: Glasshouse which had the biggest audience of the night with 1.185m viewers and a 21.5 per cent audience share on the main channel.  

While The Block won the 7.30pm time slot, Seven’s The Force and Border Security were both up on last week with audiences of 972,000 and 876,000 at 7.30 and 8pm respectively.

On the ABC the return of news satire Shaun Micallef’s Mad as Hell at 8pm drew 643,000 viewers, while Utopia at 8.30pm had 620,000 viewers, up on last week, but Reality Check continues to languish with 390,000 people tuning in at 9pm for Tom Ballard’s show, well down on last week’s 444,000.

In the 8.30pm slot Seven’s Criminal Minds had 868,000 viewers, up from 799,000 last week, while Ten’s Wonderland fell from 458,000 last week to 418,000 last night. US drama Extant was 99th overall with 137,000 viewers, down again week on week.

Nine News beat Seven News with an audience of 1.14m in the 6pm slot compared with 1.013m for Seven. In the 6.30pm news slot Nine had 1.106m viewers while Seven had 970,000 viewers.

In terms of audience share, while Nine won the night Seven had a  share of 20.8 per cent and Ten had 11.1 per cent share.

When the multi-channels are factored in Seven and Nine had a dead tie with 30.8 per cent each.
