Redundancies at Yahoo!7 after relocation of Totaltravel

TravelYahoo!7 will see redundancies in its Totaltravel website after the decision to relocate its office from Byron Bay to the digital division’s Walsh Bay office in Sydney.

As many as a third of the website’s 20 staff are tipped to go after the company made the decision to relocate from their north cost office, where the website was founded.

A spokeswoman for Yahoo!7 would not be drawn on the number of redundancies but confirmed the move.

“Yahoo!7 can confirm that it making some changes to the Totaltravel business.  These changes include relocating the majority of the Totaltravel team roles to the Yahoo!7 Sydney office.  It is expected that the Byron Bay office will remain open until March 2014,” said the spokeswoman.

Yahoo!7 bought Totaltravel business in 2009 for a rumoured $20m.

The change caps off a tumultuous year for the digital joint venture, between Yahoo! and Seven West Media after withdrawing Spreets from the group buying market and the closure of its Search Marketing business, which both led to redundancies.

In August, the company also had a $61.5m write down while its CEO Stuart Sayers resigned two weeks ago to take a job at Amazon, and commercial director Damon Scarr departed in August for a role with Adobe, with Jenny Hosie put in temporary charge.
