Richie’s declaration of love for Alex sees The Bachelor watched by 1.324m

Last night’s finale of The Bachelor, in which bachelor Richie Strahan shocked audiences by choosing single-mum Alex Nation over Nikki Gogan, saw 1.324m metro viewers tune in for the finale decision.

The rest of the finale was watched by 1.103m, which was up on the launch of the season which attracted 882,000.

Last night’s episode was up on last year’s finale of The Bachelor which saw an average of 1.228m tune in to see Sam Wood choose Snezana MarkoskiThe Bachelor finale in 2014, which saw Blake Garvey propose to Sam Frost, grabbed 1.374m metro viewers.

However, it was down on last year’s finale of The Bachelorette which pulled in 1.52m metro viewers.

The final decision portion of last night’s finale was the most-watched program across the key advertising demographics (16-39, 18-49 and 25-54) while the rest of the finale was the second most-watched show.

Ten won the night with an audience share of 20.6%, ahead of Nine’s share of 19.6% while Seven posted a share of 16.1% and the ABC managed a share of 10.4%.

On Seven, Cats Make You Laugh Out Loud at 8pm was watched by 554,000 which was out-rated by Nine’s RBT, which aired at 7.30pm, and had an audience of 711,000.

Ten’s Gogglebox, which aired directly after The Bachelor at 9pm, pulled in 730,000 while The ABC’s The Checkout, which aired at 8pm, grabbed 617,000 metro viewers.
