McManus to return to Ten with Saturday Night Rove
Saturday Night Rove, hosted by Rove McManus, will premiere on Ten on 24 August at 7:30pm as a six week series, following its original trial during last year’s Pilot Week.
Broadcast live in front of a studio audience, the “freewheeling comedy hour” will see McManus joined by series regulars Alex Lee, Alex Jae, Justin Hamilton and Judith Lucy, whose “iconically dry voice will be presiding over absolutely everything and sparing absolutely nothing.”
The only rule, according to Ten? “Leave your dignity at the door, we’re just here for the laughs”.
“It’s great to be back doing what I love most, which is causing trouble in a live television studio,” McManus said.
“I’m also looking forward to the idea that, whether you are staying in or on your way out, we can be a hub for people to come and hang out on their Saturday night. Plus, our drinks won’t be anywhere near as overpriced.”
Last decade, McManus was one of TV’s most familiar faces, thanks to his nine year stint hosting Rove Live, which aired weekly on Sundays from 2000 to 2009. Once the show ended, he continued his relationship with Ten, with his production company Roving Enterprises behind current affairs show The Project.
Early last year, McManus returned to TV hosting with panel show Show Me the Movie after his breakfast show with former Bachelor constestant turned Bachelorette Sam Frost was dumped by 2Day FM in January 2017 after just over a year on air. The pair were replaced by Em Rusciano and Harley Breen, however Breen quit after less than a year, replaced by Ed Kavalee. Rusciano and Kavalee were joined by Grant Denyer in 2018.
“Causing trouble in a live television studio” someone tell him he’s dreaming
This is the second time I’ve read a news item from you guys that completely fails to mention Rove’s Doctor Who wrap-up show, Whovians, which he hosted on ABC Comedy in 2017 and 2018. Please do your research!
Rove Live actually aired on Tuesday nights in its last few years.
Gogglebox Enthusiasts will be all over this show!
Unfunny, untalented and a publicity tart… how does Rove keep getting contracts… This will be worse than the “hey hey” reboot, and will see a spike in alcohol abuse on Saturday nights as adults across the country are forcded to leave the house to avoid this rubbish
Other way around. Rove Live aired Tuesday’s until 2007 when the name of the show was changed to just Rove and it moved to Sunday’s.
Fingers crossed Rove brings ‘What The?’ back with him.
Rove’s comedy is as stale/dry as a week-old bagel.
He must have some spectacular [Edited under Mumbrella’s comment moderation policy]
