Rush ratings overtake Cops LAC
Ten’s cop drama Rush appears to have seen off its Nine challenger Cops LAC after just four outings.
The heavily promoted Nine show has made a debut of 1.168m, more than half a million viewers more than Rush.
The next two weeks saw the gaps narrow between the two shows as Cops LAC’s ratings declined.
Last night Rush reached a metro audience of 800,000, according to preliminary overnight metro ratings from OzTam. It was 15th for the night.
Cops LAC didn’t run in Melbourne last night because of The Footy Show’s AFL grand final special. But across Sydney, Brisbane, Adelaide and Perth it rated 529,000. In the same four cities Rush rated 578,000.
Thanks to the strong performance of The Footy Show, Nine easily won the night.

Memo to Channel 9: try to make a TV show that’s different and intelligent rather than just another cookie-cutter formula show. Have it written by writers who can, you know, WRITE – not the same lame hacks who churn out lame dumb obvious dialog – and then hire actors who can actually ACT, unlike Kate Ritchie and most of the rest of them.

Drazic from Heartbreak High will always beat sally from Home & Away

So sick of the police dramas – boring! Bad move Channel 9.
Channel 10 went in the right direction of making Offspring, something for women (that many men secretly watch and enjoy!), romantic and funny!

And @Jack, well said – totally agree!

That is because Rush is actually quite good…

Hardly a memorable victory. Rush’s numbers are still lousy.

Rush’s numbers were looking and would look much better without the audience splitting 9 trash on air. There’s little doubt it cracks the mil without it’s poorly produced doppleganger up against it.

We all know what a great acting school home and away is and waht great acting talent it turns out, thats why cops lac is such a dud…oh give them the gold logie just for being on the show for a longtime. There is a reason why we dont see them doing anything else Kate Richie you have been foud out.

Okay I’m sitting in nines Ivory Towers at Willoughby. Do I commission another series of horrendously expensive drama or do I just buy six (yes six) off the shelf mid range US Drama’s. Now to help me make the decision I think I would look at what the people are saying. No contest RIP Aussie Drama. CSI Boise Idaho here we come.
Neighbours, home and away etc are all trash but because they were given a chance they are institutions. How about we give these things a few chances to become institutions or stop whinging when we don’t have an australian production industry.

Note to mumbrella. Get some better content. If you deem yourselves as creative, and reporting on the key industry issues, perhaps take a look at Creativity or even Adnews who actually provide readers with relevent news that harbours positivity and learning, rather than using your laziness to play good cop bad cop with the TV industry.

@Anonymous – don’t be rude to Mumbrella! It is one of the finest Australian media websites on the internet. The fact is, the making of tv shows is a hugely creative process that provides plenty of jobs in the media industry therefore it is a key issue what is being created in the Australian TV industry as we have a reputation for high quality content!
They are not playing good cop, bad cop – they are simply presenting balanced views.
I don’t know who you are or your background but if you so cheesed off, make your own blog or similar website if you are going to complain and criticise.

@ Anon Having a bad Friday afternoon?? Leave Mumbrella alone. They do a great job giving us all a place to have our views. Maybe you are more comfortable when everyone comes to your facebook page and talks about you.

@Sarah – Learn to make a non biased content. Balanced views do not attack on network constantly. And balanced views look at positives as well as negatives (which mumbrella rarely does not to mention tim burrows).
Second, please name 10 Australian shows in the past 10 years that were successfully broadcast to overseas audiences in multiple countries. And please don’t say home and away or neighbors because the rest of the world knows they are shit.

@R. Mugobme. So Mumbrella can criticize everyone’s work all day but we can never criticize them back? Sure guy

@ Sarah and Mugobme–The question is for both of you, is have you ever worked in the TV industry? I am guessing not. This hypothesis comes from the fact that neither of you seem privy to the insight of how TV cop shows rate not only in Australia, but also around the world. Also if you knew the purpose of industry trades such as this, you would know that media is very often made of subjectivity, which mumbrella continues to display in its biased and non-premised arguments.
Perhaps you should save your naiive “facebook” coments to yourself, which is an oddly irrelevant remark to make.

@Anoymous, I do actually work in the television industry in international media sales of television show actually!
And who cares if Mumbrella is biases – every publication is! There is not an editor out there who can’t deny they have once favoured a topic.
and @ shane in response to your comment ” please tell me10 Australian shows in the past 10 years that were successfully broadcast to overseas audiences in multiple countries.” – the company I work for sells our ‘Australian made’ television programs (over 100 of them) all over the world, in almost every country (I even sell into Africa! Nigeria, Tanzania, Botswana…you name it!) and the companies earns millions every year because the shows do very well overseas. You clearly need to open your eyes a bit more to the Australian television industry and know what is out there!

@Sarah—Africa? Where’s Africa?

@ Anon…. Yes celebrating 20 years in the industry. Been lucky to work in several countries over this time. And Australia is awash with assassins hampering the network execs testicular fortitude when it comes to investing in Australian content. Have a lovely weekend Anon.

@Sarah people pay for ads in africa.

Ok @anon and @nick, people on the continent of Africa, in their separate countries, actually buy tv shows believe it or not! and have televisions! shock horror!

@Sarah–is this a revelation that you’ve uncovered? How insightful of you. I’m sure that no one knows that the countries that make up Africa would have media industries. And I’m sure that there are many out there will see humour in your apparent ignorant comment.

@anon – are we getting lost in translation? I thought your comment was being ignorant and rude in first place that is why I made my points.
User ID not verified.
@anon – come to think of it – do you work in the tv industry?

@ Sean,
Actually Home & Away has proven to be a fine acting school. Heath Ledger, Isla Fisher, Ryan Kwanten,Guy Pearce, Isobel Lucas just to name a few.
And Neighbours too – Russell Crowe for starters.

@ Sean I guess you don’t rate Heath Ledger Russell Crowe and Guy Pearce Sean? If you kill local production you will find that Australia ends up with the same number of oscars world stars and genuine world talent as Fiji.

Oh FFS, people…! Do the maths! Any soapie that is running five nights per week for 10 years or 20 years or however many years is, by virtue of The Law of Big Numbers, going to feature many young actors who go on to bigger and better things.
Yes, that includes Neighbours and Home & Away. And it includes a slew of stars, many cited above – but I doubt they honed their now world-class acting skills as a guest spot on the soaps. More importantly, though, you’re forgetting the thousands and thousands of actors or rather non-actors who have been in these soaps and gone nowhere… you can name the STARS but not the 100 or 500 or 1000 soapie zeroes for every Hollywood hero. The reason you can’t name them is that they could not act, they made zip impact.
So what does this mean? Does it mean we should cancel soapies? Of course not. No-one is suggesting we should! They are a mill for young ‘talent’, they’re broadly popular, they are part of a country’s social fabric and a reflection of its culture, and some they can even make money by being sold overseas!
But what we SHOULD do is stop pretending that being a soapie ‘star’ makes you a great actress (cv Kate Ritchie), and from a network’s perspective stop trotting out the same tired formulas with the same tired faces, B-grade writers and C-grade actors (or is it the other way around?).
COPS LAC is just one example of an expensive flop that could have been seen a mile away, or should have been if anyone was paying attention.

In my opinion rush is far better than cops lac. i mean what type of dialogue does cops lac have! its just an average police station with average cops! Boring! Rush is about a tactical team who actually do stuff and get in the action. nine have got to get in the game! they though rescue special ops was going to be good. its a show about a team who does rescues, who would want to watch that. I think next week rush is going to spike in ratings. i hope anyway!

OH did they start in home and away or were they just using it as a vechicle.Yes those guys have all moved on to bigger and better things. Heath Ledger was an outstanding actor and was already working in a number of shows and he moved on very quickly and the same for Russel Crowe Was Guy pearce in Neighbours mmm. I was just saying it was a crap show and today very poor acting and Kate Richie has been found out and you give Ray whats his name a gold logie just for being in that show for 20 years not for any noteable acting.Im not saying to kill Australian production im saying it needs to lift its game…stop be so precious and see it as contructive critism.

What is the point of cops lac! According to the description it is a show about a special operations police command! In other words! Its a police station! And apparently its an all star cast! Kate ritchie is the only cast member anyone has ever heard of before! And in an ad for the show before the first episode did anyone notice they used the same song rush did to promote season 2!
