Sarah McGregor joins AKQA
Former Dentsu Creative ECD Sarah McGregor has joined AKQA Australia, replacing the role left vacant by Tim Devine last month.
Joining as the agency’s new executive creative director, she will help lead its creative output locally, aiming to reinforce its position in the market.
She will work closely with the senior leadership team, including fellow ECD Tara McKenty, CSO Iona Macgregor, ESD Nicole Armstrong, Sydney general manager Justine Leong, and managing director Jeremy Smart.
Together, they will drive “creative innovation and growth” in the region.
McGregor joins AKQA from Dentsu Creative, where she spent nearly three years as ECD. Prior to that, she worked at Communicado, Cummins and Partners, Leo Burnett, and Karmarama, among other agencies. She is also a founding member of The Aunties, a mentoring and events program for women in the creative industries.

“AKQA has long been known for work that solves hard problems in inventive ways, courageously fusing creativity, technology, and humanity to create powerful work,” McGregor said in a media release.
“I’m excited to join such a forward-thinking team and collaborate with our clients to create experiences that are not only innovative but truly meaningful.”
She replaces Tim Devine, former AUNZ ECD for the agency, who was promoted last month. Devine has moved into a global chief invention officer role, as a response to growing client demand.
Smart, MD of AKQA Australia, said she brings a “wonderful” combination of creative excellence, leadership, and purposeful storytelling to the new.
“Her passion for innovation and inclusion reflects AKQA’s values and vision for the future. We’re thrilled to welcome her to the team and look forward to the energy and ideas she’ll bring to our clients and culture.”
Elsewhere, AKQA has also promoted David Clarke to executive experience design director, APAC, effective immediately. His promotion hopes to elevate the agency’s regional design capabilities.
He will lead the offering across Australia, New Zealand, and Japan, reporting to AKQA’s APAC CEO, Brian Vella.”I owe much to my time at AKQA over the span of 20 years. London taught me the craft, New York shaped me as a leader, and now this role offers an incredible opportunity to amplify a region rich with creative potential,” he said in the release.
“I’m energised by what’s ahead and honoured to be a part of such an ambitious network of talented people.”
