SBS turns to modelling agency for new boss of subscription TV

SBS has turned to a modelling agency for the man to head up its subscription TV operation.

Chris Keely joins from Singaporean modelling agency Elite Model Management as GM of subscription TV.

Keely replaces Sandra Bender who is returning to her native Canada.

Before the modelling industry, Keely worked in broadcast media and the arts in Australia, New Zealand, Southeast Asia and Greater China markets across private, public and community sectors.

He has previously managed pay-TV channels for Viacom (MTV, Nickelodeon, Nick Jr. and Comedy Central) and at Optus Vision (Ovation and licensed MTV channels).

As well as his experience as an adviser to Commonwealth and State ministers for the Arts, Keely led the development of Australia’s first cultural policy ‘Creative Nation’.

SBS chief operating officer Richard Finlayson said: “SBS is pleased to welcome Chris on board. With high-level skills and experience over a long period of time in the subscription TV industry, Chris brings to SBS a deep understanding of the business and a track record in growing channels.”

Keely begins his role at SBS with immediate effect.
