Scoopon seeks first ad agency in bid for household name status
Scoopon is close to appointing its first advertising agency, Mumbrella can reveal.
Having secured funding after selling a stake to James Packer and Seek co-founder Andrew Bassett, the daily deals company wants an agency to help build its brand into a household name.
“Scoopon would like to lift its profile across the board and become a household name, synonymous with great experiences and savings. The appointed advertising agency will play a key role is assisting them to do this,” a source close to the company said.
After a pitch involving a number of Melbourne shops, The Sphere Agency is tipped to win the business. The agency will be briefed to handle above- and below-the-line activity, with a strong focus on digital.
To date, Scoopon has used agencies on a project basis. The PR Group handles its public relations.
Scoopon had not returned Mumbrella’s calls at press time.
i would have thought PR incl social media would be a much more effective way to spend their marketing dollar

What is Scoopon?

Scoopon is a daily deals site that has one deal a day at a big discount. Personally I prefer Fresh Daily Deal, which is a similar concept of 1 heavily discounted item per day but that’s probably because I love cosmetics and fragrances.

I hear that a huge percentage of Scoupon customers want their money back – maybe they should analyze the value proposition before putting a lot of money into brand
This is the usual process of hyping a brand before you figure out what the real value proposition is for the product
Simply cloning Groupon is not enough
I would be looking to sell the business while the hype lasts

Amen. Can a Mumbrella admin delete it?
I recently unsubscribed from all the voucher sites because they no longer seem to offer anything useful, just alleged “deals” on vastly inflated skin treatments, discounts on overseas accommodation (coming from Europe where discounted all-inclusive package tours are the norm – ie flights as well – a mere reduced hotel night holds no appeal) and cut price golf days.
