Semi Permanent Sydney 2018 First Lineup Announced

Global creative platform Semi Permanent will celebrate 16 years of pioneering and transformative design with the return of their three-day event on May 24th, 25th and 26th at Carriageworks, Sydney

Semi Permanent 2018 will explore notions of creative tension as inspiration via an extraordinary roster of talent within and between multiple disciplines of design. Presented as part of the Vivid Ideas program at Vivid Sydney, the world’s largest festival of light, music and ideas, the Semi Permanent program features Scott Dadich, Founder and co-CEO Godfrey Dadich Partners, former WIRED Editor-in-Chief and Executive Producer of Netflix series ‘Abstract: The Art of Design’, and Patrick Godfrey, Founder and co-CEO Godfrey Dadich Partners, who will appear in conversation with a hand-picked selection of their most influential collaborators – to be announced soon.

Legendary Nike sneaker designer Tinker Hatfield will delineate a 36+ year career through his most celebrated shoe designs. Paula Scher, the iconic New York graphic designer and Principal at Pentagram, will cement her legacy as one of the most influential designers of the 21st century (and she’ll host a workshop afterwards). Alex Schleifer, VP of Design at Airbnb, will discuss how design can accelerate a global sense of belonging. Ajaz Ahmed, Founder and CEO of innovation behemoth AKQA, will teach you the lessons he’s learnt running a creative empire with over 2,000 staff. And NYC-based, Hong Kong-born, Australian motion designer Joyce N. Ho will take us behind ‘The Art of the Title’ and her collaboration with Dropbox.

Hosted by Sydney letteristand graphic designer Gemma O’Brien, there is plenty more to be announced including the return of the Future State panels, plus additional speakers, workshops, exhibitions, experiences and more.

In 2018, Semi Permanent again welcomes aboard our key partners and collaborators; the NSW Government’s tourism and major events agency Destination NSW who own, manage and produce Vivid Sydney, Western Sydney University, Facebook, Dropbox, Vice and The Old Clare Hotel. Stay tuned for more details on how these partners will be connecting with our audience in the lead-up to the event and on-ground at Carriageworks – making the Semi Permanent audience experience unlike any other in Australia.

“greater impact with our work. How we could travel more freely, both in our minds and in airplane seats. How we could influence the world around us wherever we are. So once again we’ll be giving you the skills to adapt in an ever-evolving environment with some of the best and brightest minds we’ve ever had the pleasure of hosting, not to mention the workshops, installations, screenings, drinks, food, sound and light our audience has come to expect from us. I would love to welcome you to our next live experience and an evolved Semi Permanent platform. See you in May.”
