Seven News tops Nine News by just 1,000 but A Current Affair wins at 7pm

sevenSeven News squeezed a win in its timeslot against the extended Nine News last night, winning just 1,000 more viewers for the half hour slot from 6pm.

OzTam’s preliminary overnight ratings show metro viewers dropped out during the second half of the new one hour Nine News bulletin, launched on Monday, as 969,000 of 1.045m stayed tuned for the second half. However it won more viewers than Seven’s Today Tonight which averaged 942,000 from 6.30pm.

Seven News was the top program of the night with 1.046m metro viewers. However Nine News was the most watched program among people 25-54, Channel Nine’s target demographic.

Nine’s A Current Affair won the 7pm timeslot with 848,000 viewers while Seven’s repeat of RBT, following the police Random Breath Test unit, averaged 751,000. ABC News was second in the 7pm timeslot with 751,000 viewers on ABC1.

Ten’s T20 Big Bash League performed strongly for the network, winning the biggest prime time audience from 7.30pm with an average 630,000 metro viewers until 11pm.

Meanwhile Seven’s Night with Roger Federer – a special exhibition match between him and French player Jo-Wilfred Tsonga, brought in an audience of 515,000 for the network from 8pm until 10.30pm.

ABC1’s return of Kevin McCloud’s Man Made Home, in which the British designer, writer and television presenter constructed himself a home on the beach, won a stronger audience than Channel Seven with 539,000 watching for 50 minutes from 8.30pm.

Nine had the largest audience share with 19.1 per cent as Seven had 17.8 per cent, and Ten was third in the rankings with an estimated 14.3 per cent audience share while ABC1 had 12.1 per cent.
