Seven signs American Football deal
Seven has signed a five year rights agreement for coverage of the National Football League for live broadcast and online content.
Under the agreement Seven will have free broadcast television rights for Seven and 7mate and will broadcast three consecutive games on Sunday to be followed by Sunday Night Football on 7mate, which will air on Mondays because of the time difference.
Seven’s Head of Sport, Saul Shtein, said in a statement: “This is a great signing. We are delighted to be partners with the NFL in Australia. The signing of the NFL to Seven reaffirms a key strategy in our future: a focus on live coverage of major sports events across our broadcast television platform and leveraging and expanding that presence into new forms of content delivery. We are looking forward to working with the NFL and its other media partners to deliver all-encompassing coverage across a number of our broadcast platforms.”
Seven will also broadcast live the NFL playoffs and Superbowl.
The deal includes online content as well with the network promoting the NFL Game Pass digital subscription product, which contains live and archived games and other NFL content for PCs, tablets and smartphones.
In addition, Seven will be the digital advertising representatives for NFL.com and m.nfl.com in Australia.
“Seven will also broadcast live the NRL playoffs and Superbowl.”
Don’t you mean the NFL playoffs?

Well done 7–can’t wait until September. Good to see the New England Quarterback following your story!

They’ve got to be kidding! There is no interest in gridiron in Australia at all, never has been. Even Fox Sports gave up on it. It is seen as a peculiar American oddity which can safely be ignored, in fact there is great hostility towards the sport in this country. Next from Seven, live coverage of the curling from Finland and the cheese rolling from the UK.

Could go well on FTA. Not surprised it flopped on Fox – too many other programs to watch

I prefer gridiron to soccer and rugby so i’m happy to give it a go. I just hope they have some body explaining it coherently.

This is good news but I can already get it ad free and on demand thanks to NFL GamePass for about $100 a season. makes a big difference to the length of games too.

About as exciting as paint drying.
Australians have never watched it in great numbers and probably never will……must have been a cheap content deal & that’s exactly what FTA is on the look out for.

Nine Network tried late night American football in the late 1980s with Don Lane as host, and it bombed. Hardly anyone watched it, and it was pulled after a handful of games.
