Seven switches afternoon lineup with launch of Million Dollar Minute
Seven has moved to shake up its early evening lineup in a bid to overcome Nine’s dominance of the 5.30pm gameshow slot.
Recent months have seen Nine’s Hot Seat, presented by Eddie McGuire, grow its lead over Seven’s Deal Or No Deal, hosted by Andrew O’Keefe.
Deal Or No Deal will now move to 5pm, with a new show – Million Dollar Minute – hosted by former Sunrise weather presenter Grant Denyer launching at 5.30pm. The show comes on the back of the ratings success of the Denyer-helmed Slide Show in prime time.
According to the announcement from Seven, the show is “a battle of general knowledge in which every correct answer is a step closer to the ultimate test: Can one person, in one minute, win one million dollars?”
The format has been developed in-house within Seven’s production department.
“It’s a brilliant block of programming and we’re incredibly excited,” said Seven’s network director of production Brad Lyons.
The new lineup begins next Monday:
- 4.00pm Seven News at 4, presented by Melissa Doyle and Matt White
- 5.00pm Deal or No Deal, hosted by Andrew O’Keefe
- 5.30pm Million Dollar Minute, hosted by Grant Denyer
- 6.00pm Seven News

Usually not a fan of commercial channel television,
I have to give Channel Seven full credit for choosing Denyer. He was a very smart placement on Slide Show admittedly and I have no doubt this new show will be a success due to having him at the helm.
I wait in anticipation to see if he can reignite Australia’s passion for the family quiz show. I think the genre will make a big comeback following Million Dollar Minute and I for one will be playing each night from my lounge room. Secretly, won’t you?
