Seven trumps ratings with Tokyo Olympic Games pulling in 1.585m viewers

Seven had the best shares for any network and primary channel so far this year as a result of the Tokyo Olympic Games and three major events during the first six days of ratings week.

In entertainment, Nine’s Beauty and the Geek has remained in top spot thanks to its metro audience of 692,000, making it the #1 entertainment program of the evening. Nine had an overall daily share of 22.1%, along with a cross-platform audience of 1.37 million.

Beauty and the Geek was followed by Network Ten’s Survivor, which pulled in a metro audience of 563,000, while Ten pulled in an overall daily share of 13.9%.

Despite only three major Olympic events during the first six days of ratings week, the audience came out in droves to watch the two football matches and the Opening Ceremony.

Seven ranked #1 in TV ratings network shares on every night of the week and it was the #1 primary channel on six of the seven nights.

For the week starting 18 July, Seven had a 27.3% network share, Nine had 26.7% share, Ten had 21.4% network share and ABC 15.3% share.

On Nine, the first makeover episode of Beauty and Geek on Sunday night was the highest rating episode of the week and performed strongly in the demos. It attracted a metro audience of 778,000 and was a time slot winner across the all cities, in Sydney, Brisbane and with total people.

The Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games Day 2 – Night won all three key advertising demos.
