Seven wins first week of summer ratings

Seven has cruised to an easy ratings win for the first week of summer, winning six of the first seven days outside of the official non-ratings period.

Despite losing out to Nine on Saturday’s metro ratings, Seven finished the week with an average audience share of 19.2%, ahead of Nine’s 17.2%, according to preliminary overnight data from OzTam.

The ABC’s main channel was third with 13%, ahead of Ten with 11.1%. SBS completed a strong week for the multicultural broadcaster with a cumulative audience of 5.7%.

Meanwhile, Nine won Saturday night with a share of 20.4%, ahead of Seven’s 17.9%.

And one of the most unusual ratings results of the night came in Perth, where SBS’s 7.5% audience share saw it beat Ten back into fifth place, with a share of 5.6%.

In the Perth timezone, SBS’s live coverage of the EPL clash between Manchester City and Chelsea took place in primetime, while it was around midnight in the eastern states. In total, the game attracted an average metro audience of 125,000.

Meanwhile, Seven News was most watched program of the night with a five city metro audience of 728,000. Nine News was second with 665,000, just ahead of ABC News on 656,000.

Top entertainment show was the ABC’s Doc Martin repeat with 545,000 viewers, ahead of the second part of Harry Potter & The Deadly Hallows on Nine.

In the morning slot, Nine’s Weekend Today saw off Seven’s Weekend Sunrise by 272,000 to 255,000.
