Seven wins Friday night with Gardens, The Chase and News

A low key Friday night lineup with little on offer outside of Better Homes and Gardens, football and the news saw the Seven Network saunter to a comfortable win over Nine in the preliminary overnight OzTam ratings.

The weekly status quo held firm with Better Homes and Gardens on Seven at 7pm attracting 625,000 viewers to rank as the top general entertainment show of the night.

Seven News at 6pm secured the top spot, with 949,000, while Nine News was slightly behind with 932,000 tuning in.

Other news show also performed strongly with Nine News at 6:30pm drawing 924,000 and Seven News/Today Tonight watched by 890,000.

After Better Homes, the next best performing show was The Chase Australia at 5pm with 607,000, and coming in eighth place, ahead of Nine’s Millionaire Hot Seat at the same time with 514,000.

The battle between the football codes was won by Nine with the Friday Night NRL live clash between the Gold Coast and South Sydney, broadcast in Sydney and Brisbane, watched by 379,000.

Seven’s AFL match between North Melbourne and St Kilda, which aired in Melbourne and Adelaide, drew 359,000.

Ten just missed out on the top 10 shows with The Living Room at 7.30pm gaining an audience of 470,000, ahead of The Graham Norton Show at 8.30pm with 404,000.

Seven’s share for the night was 21.1%, ahead of Nine on 18.1% and Ten with 11.6%. The ABC finished with a 10.7% share and SBS with 3.4%.
