Seven wins Thursday night with help of news, sport and Home and Away

News and current affairs, AFL and Home and Away together pushed Seven ahead of rivals last night, with a 19.8% share lead over Nine’s 17.9% share and Ten’s 15.2% share.

Its most watched program of the evening was the 6pm news bulletin, which pulled in 943,000. Outside of news, The Chase Australia and Home and Away pulled the largest audiences for the channel, with 618,000 and 601,000 viewers.

Seven’s staple offerings helped it win the night

The AFL match between Port Adelaide and the Western Bulldogs, which ran across Seven and 7mate, had an audience of 416,000 across the five metro cities.

But Funniest Ever Crazy Cats, which ran at 7:30pm, as well as Modern Family, did not make OzTAM’s overnight preliminary top 20.

More popular was Ten’s Masterchef Australia, with an audience of 787,000, helping the program win the key advertising demographics – 16-39, 18-49 and 25-54 – once again.

The Masterclass, which ran as part of Masterchef last night, had 561,000 viewers.

Nine’s most watched non news program of the evening was Hot Seat achieved 539,000. In Sydney and Brisbane, the NRL match between the Paramatta Eels and the South Sydney Rabbitohs pulled in 350,000.

On 9Go, Love Island Australia achieved 181,000 viewers at 8:30pm.
