Shake the Cage Cup asks creatives to create content on issues they care about
Shake the Cage is asking creatives to go out and make a piece of content that raises awareness about issues they care about. ‘The Pitch’ styled competition open to all is generating buzz with creatives and artists from Australia and abroad.
The announcement:
Everybody has an issue that touches their heart. From fighting incurable diseases or protecting the environment through to promoting the arts and social enterprise – the list has no end.
With six Aussie impact-oriented judges announced to date, and a rising prize pool for creators and not-for-profits, you can now respond to a dream creative brief that’s asking you to go out and make a piece of content that raises awareness about an issue in vital need of economic support that you care about.
That’s the brief to creators in Australia and abroad. What’s the catch? The key guideline underpinning this brief is that the content is to be launched via social channels on November 15th with a small snippet on the end that will hopefully spur the one of the most important cultural conversations in Australia since the Same-Sex-Marriage debate began in 2017 – a conversation that could potentially raise hundreds of millions of dollars for causes in need and get Australian politicians talking.
With all this is happening as we come into election season in Victoria, NSW and Australia, the competition has been designed to do a heap of good and shake things up for the better harnessing the power of creativity.
“Film is a powerful tool for engaging and educating. It’s incredibly exciting to have artists from Australia and abroad jumping onboard for what should be a very exciting ride” notes Desh Amilia, the founder of This is 42 and Director/Producer of Islam and the Future of Tolerance (2018).
Along with several other big names, Desh and Dr Meredith Doig are evidently over the moon to be judges in the competition.
“This entire initiative is about bringing an issue front and centre that most Australians don’t know about, or talk about nearly enough” says Dr Meredith Doig (OAM), President of the Rationalist Society of Australia and board member of Dying with Dignity Victoria.
“It’s a really inventive way of creating powerful content and raising money for a handful of causes in need of support, and just as importantly, kicking off a conversation that could generate millions of dollars more for organisations that operate for the public benefit for years to come” she goes on to add.
Creators are also set to be spoilt for choice when it comes to sourcing their soundtracks, with a number of artists already giving creators the rights to use their work as the backdrop to their submissions.
Furthermore, for creators and supporters from all walks of life, there’s likely to be a handful of fun events put on for shakers to round out the competition in late November to raise additional funds and celebrate everybody’s good work.
And the fun is set to crank up in coming weeks, with a variety of announcements (including one prominent figure in the Australian advertising landscape set to be named a judge).
