The Shallows and War Dogs debut, fail to beat Suicide Squad

The Shallows and War Dogs both failed to knock Suicide Squad from its position at the top of the weekend box office, with combined sales of the two films at $2.95m failing to top Suicide Squad’s $3.18m.

Shark thriller The Shallows, starring Blake Lively, debuted at number four, taking in $1.55m, while crime-dramedy War Dogs, starring Jonah Hill and Miles Teller, followed closely at number five, with $1.4m.

Suicide Squad has maintained its top position for three weeks, raking in $3.18m across 363 screens to take its total local box office earnings to $27.76m.

Maintaining its positions from last week are Bad Moms at number two, which took in $2.45m across 307 screens this week – debuting at $3.244m last week, and Sausage Party at number three, which took $1.77m across 223 screens this week, after opening at $2.506m last week.
