Sky News Australia set to release streaming service in 2024

Sky News Australia has revealed that it will launch a streaming-based subscription service that will give customers unprecedented access to the media outlet’s content.

Launching in early 2024, the direct-to-consumer service offering — dubbed the ‘SkyNews.com.au Streaming Subscription’ — will support 24/7 access to a consolidated format of the outlet’s four news channels: FOX SPORTS News, Sky News, Sky News Extra, and Sky News Weather.

Specifically, users will be able to view Australian-exclusive opinion shows (featuring ex-political advisor Peta Credlin, English journalist Piers Morgan, and more), live news, business insights, documentaries and full-scale coverage of weather, sport and politics via the Sky News website or the app with capabilities for on-the-go streaming and TV casting.

“We’ve seen exceptional growth across our digital platforms over the past few years as more than eight million Australians seek out our content online each month,” explained Paul Whittaker, Sky News Australia’s chief executive officer.

According to Whittaker, the outlet’s jump into the streaming/subscription space is monumental for its digital strategy.

“The launch of the SkyNews.com.au Streaming Subscription service is a pivotal moment in the evolution of our digital strategy that will provide our highly engaged and growing online audience around-the-clock access to quality news, opinion and documentary content across four dedicated news channels.”

The subscription will follow a $5 per-month model, with automatic charges.
