Smallzy to leave Nova after 23 years

Kent ‘Smallzy’ Small has decided to leave Nova after 23 years with the network, telling listeners “the time has come to hang up the headphones”.

Small started at the network in 2002, and has hosted Nova’s 8pm-10pm evening show, Smallzy’s Surgery, since 2012.

The show has achieved a remarkable 92 survey wins as the top show in its timeslot over the past 13 years, with a spokesperson from the station saying Small “effectively invented the [8pm-10pm] format in this country”.

Small announced his departure on Monday afternoon, saying: “When I first started the show in 2012, I never would have imagined getting to do the things I have done, from the celebrity interviews, to Nova’s Red Room and travelling the globe covering the biggest events.

“They’ve all made the show something very, very special.”

The final episode of Smallzy’s Surgery will air this Friday, August 15, following a week of nostalgic content.

“We’ve got a whole lot of history and one final week to relive it all,” Small said.
