SMI and Mumbrella’s economic snapshot event returns to Sydney and expands to Melbourne

Spends-Trends-logo-final-234x195Mumbrella’s Spends and Trends breakfast, dedicated to helping marketers, agencies and media executives understand the current trends in advertising spending along with the wider economic outlook, is returning to Sydney for a second time, and expanding to Melbourne.

The event is a joint presentation with industry advertising spending barometer Standard Media Index.

Masters

SMI ‘s global director of analytics Tristan Masters will present an overview of the key advertising spend trends in Australia, including an examination of key categories, using the latest data form media agency bookings. Masters’ presentation will include new data for the current January to March financial quarter.

Senior economists from ANZ, Felicity Emmett and Riki Polygenis will then discuss how the wider economy is looking including consumer confidence. Afterwards they will join a panel of leading industry figures including Foxtel marketer Ed Smith and Carat’s Dan Sinfield in Sydney and PHD’s Mark Coad and Fiat/Chrysler’s marketing director Mark McCraith in Melbourne, to discuss the outlook.

SMI was launched by Jane Schulze in Australia five years ago. The service uses data from major media agencies to provide a monthly snapshot of actual ad expenditure in the market. It now operates in 15 global markets

Smith is one of Australia’s leading marketers and is currently tasked with leading Foxtel’s push to expand its market share, whilst Sinfield is managing director of Carat Sydney, which handles some of Australia’s biggest media accounts including supermarket giant Woolworths.

In Melbourne the panel will consist of Coad, one of Australia’s most respected media buyers and CEO of PHD nationally and McCraith, who moved to become director of marketing for Fiat/Chrysler in 2013 after 25 years with some of Australia’s biggest media agencies including Mindshare and Maxus.

The Sydney event takes place on Tuesday, April 21 whilst the Melbourne breakfast is on Friday, April 24. Both events are sponsored by ANZ BlueNotes.
