Song created by Sphere Agency for Nando’s to be used as Africa Cup of Nations anthem

The original Hearts on Fire track for Nando’s

A song written and produced by Melbourne’s The Sphere Agency for former client Nando’s is to be used as the theme music for an international soccer tournament.

The track ‘Heart on Fire’ is to be used as the cause anthem for the 2013 Africa Cup of Nations.

The music was co-written by The Sphere Agency founder Michael Abdul and Dennis Dowlut, lead singer from the band Electric Empire, for a Nando’s campaign to fight Malaria that launched around the South Africa FIFA World Cup in 2010.

Hearts on Fire is to be re-recorded by Yvonne Chaka Chaka, one of Africa’s best known artists.

Chaka Chaka, an ambassador for United Against Malaria, is in Sydney this week for the Malaria 2012 Summit. She is to team up with Abdul and Dowlut to work on a re-mix of the song with an unnamed Australian artist.

Abdul said: “It’s beyond our wildest dreams to be working with Yvonne in creating the Cause Anthem. It’s truly inspiring to see what’s possible when you surround yourself with people passionate about making a positive difference.”

“We see this as a perfect case study on the power of branded entertainment. This track is set to gain massive exposure, generating awareness and revenue for United Against Malaria all over the world,” Abdul said.

Abdul and Dowlut are to donate the proceeds from the sale of the track to United Against Malaria. The track will be available for download on iTunes from December.

The tune was originally used to drive customers instore with a competition to win tickets to the final of the soccer world cup. The track was downloaded 15,000 times and $250,000 raised for United Against Malaria.

Nando’s parted ways with The Sphere Agency after an eight-year relationship in May last year.
