Spotify appoints Karen Lawson as MD for Australia and New Zealand

Karen Lawson has been appointed Spotify’s managing director for Australia and New Zealand, filling the role left vacant since February following Jane Huxley’s London move to take a global role with the streaming service.

Lawson joins the company having previously been the CEO of the Slingshot Accelerator, a role she left in July last year.

Lawson previously held roles with Yahoo7 and Slingshot

Prior to Slingshot, Lawson had been CEO of careerone.com.au and spent eight years in various roles with Yahoo7 before finishing as GM of business developments and partnership in 2013.

In her new role, Lawson will report to Spotify’s Global Head of Markets, Cecilia Qvist.

Spotify has been increasing its footprint in the podcasting space with its partnership with Acast last year, along with beefing up its advertising services, having released its Ad Studio product to the Australian market last year.

A company spokesperson declined to comment on the appointment when contacted by Mumbrella.
