Spring Valley ad sees first use of Elvis Presley in an Australian commercial
Elvis Presley’s Spring Fever is the soundtrack to an animated TVC by GPY&R Melbourne for Schweppes Australia’s Spring Valley which breaks this weekend.
The ad is the first time a Presley song has been licenced for commercial use in Australia – features the work of US based animation house Psyop
Schweppes Australia marketing director Darryn Wallace, said: “Our objective was to create a new and exciting campaign for Spring Valley that had a broad appeal and after seeing it left everybody feeling happy, with an added spring in their step. We are wrapped with the final result; it is bright, colourful, has amazing animation affects and simply leaves you smiling. ”
As well as TV, the campaign will run across cinema, print, online and outdoor. Adshel bus shelters and street furniture will use flowers and grass along with Bluetooth-enabled technology allowing on the spot download of the Spring Fever Elvis track.

Doesn’t make me want to drink that at all. Well executed, what is the idea?

No great appetite appeal.
Not particularly well branded.
A lot going on, but much happening.
Just let me confirm that …………
Yep, just had a second look, all of the above is correct.

The idea is that all the leftovers from the Coke tvc’s and some new little creatures and animations are mixed together and put into a new shaped coke bottle…oops I mean Schweppes. Bugger.

I get that its just a bit o fun animation but to feature elephants, turtle/tortoise, deer etc all frolicking around water, then for that water to become spring valley isn’t all that appetising.

Not sure about the Presley ‘first time’ claim. Maybe for performance, but not music. About 15 years ago when at the Media Palace, I worked on a campaign for Australian Meat and Livestock…creative by the Campaign Palace…and the music used was Love Me Tender (but rerecorded…not the Elvis original). I remember a few of the Palace peeps had to head over to Graceland to get permission and it was a big deal at the time. Matthew Melhuish or Mark McKay might remember…they were GADs at the time.
Not trying to take anything away from this ad…just sayin…

Great advertisement and featuring an Elvis track for good measure.

I don’t mind this. I think it’s fresh and original.
Quite nicely done, although the relevance of elephants and apples is lost on me.

Now there may be a touch of bias on my part, as I am a dedicated Elvis fan who has always liked the song, but I love the ad. The song Spring Fever was featured in his 1965 movie, Girl Happy. In the movie it is sung as a duet with a group of three girls, but is recorded as a solo on the Girl Happy album. Also wonder about the claim that it is the first Elvis sung song on an Australian tv ad. I seem to remember Elvis being on a RACV ad a few years ago.

……but I must add that the contents of the bottle does look a little like elephant urine.

I saw this last night. It made me smile. It appeals to my love of all things twee. I always considered Spring Valley to be a crappy servo stn brand and this ad made me think differently.
I’d be interested to see how this is activated as there’s a lot of potential for this idea outside of a TVC.

Brilliant work. Left me smiling. Loved the Elvis touch. Remembered the product thus had to find it here and view it again. It’s not about making you want to drink it. It is about remembering the name of the product. They succeeded. This is a stand alone advertisement and so it should be considering who produced it.

When I first saw this ad the beginning of it reminded me of that ad for an anti-fungal preparation used to treat foot fungi … you know the one … where the fungi spring up on the foot pad.
