Sunrise wins the first week in breakfast TV as 299,000 metro viewers tune in on Friday morning

To round out the first week of the breakfast ratings war, Seven’s Sunrise has come out on top on Friday with 299,000 metro viewers and 485,000 when combined with regional viewers.

Today’s Friday performance saw 202,000 metro viewers and 297,000 nationally.

Amongst the capital cities, Melbourne hosted the closest gap between the breakfast programs. 54,000 viewers tuned into Today and 65,000 tuned into Sunrise. The largest gap occurred in Brisbane with 71,000 viewers for Sunrise and 40,000 viewers for Today.

Karl Stefanovic’s official return to Nine’s Today Show on Monday kicked off the battle for 2020, drawing 225,000 metro viewers against Sunrise’s 293,000. However, the Seven program held onto the lead throughout the week.

In the evening, Seven’s The Chase was the highest-rated entertainment program, with 483,000 metro viewers.

Seven’s Big Bash League of the match between the Melbourne Renegades and the Melbourne Stars topped the two younger key advertising demographics – 16-39s and 18-49s – while Seven News was the top of the 25-54s. Session two of the match brought in 487,000 metro viewers while the first delivered 428,000.

Seven News was the most-watched with total people, seeing 902,000 metro viewers tune in, followed by Seven News at 6:30 with 872,000.

Seven’s network share for Friday was 29.4%, with a primary channel share of 19.5%.

Nine News and its 6:30pm news followed, with 803,000 and 782,000 metro viewers, respectively. A Current Affair managed 640,000 metro viewers for the evening.

Nine’s primary channel amassed a 16.8% share, while the network held 26.5%.

ABC News drew 659,000 metro viewers. Later, its repeats of Endeavour and Death in Paradise attracted 470,000 and 468,000 metro viewers, respectively.

The ABC edged out Ten with a 20.3%  network share to Ten’s 15.0%. The national broadcaster’s primary channel had 14.5% while Ten held 8.5%.

Ten’s highest rated program for Friday was 10 News first with 429,000 metro viewers.
