Supercars launches app for fans

The Virgin Australia Supercars Championship, which starts its 2017 season in Adelaide this weekend, is to launch an app.

Developed with the help of Sydney agency Adrenalin, the app has been designed to offer a second screen experience.

The races are broadcast on Fox Sports and the Ten Network. People attending events will use the app in different ways to those watching at home.

3D timing will be offered in a sponsorship with Coates.

Among elements which will have sponsor integration are a live 3D leaderboard sponsored by Coates which will be available to subscribers for a $9.99 season pass.

Supercars CEO James Warburton said the V8 sport needed to be supported with a strong digital footprint that catered to fans and the sport’s sponsorship partners.

“The introduction of the Supercars App for 2017 will allow more people to connect with our sport and continues to strengthen our digital footprint,” Warburton said.

“This will greatly enhance the fan experience both at home and at the race track, offering more information that can be consumed in real time, with all the action in a heartbeat.”

The app will tap into the Supercars website newsfeed.

This year the sport will also be be broadcast throughout Asia after a new deal with Fox Sports Asia and will push into Spain and a number of other international markets for the first time this year.

The app will offer local information for fans at races.
