Swimming Santas star in Aldi Christmas campaign via BMF

Budget supermarket chain Aldi has unleashed its 2020 Christmas campaign, starring a whole raft of Santas to cap off a ridiculous year with a ridiculous TVC concept.

Created with creative agency BMF and production company Good Oil, the Santas go synchronised swimming in lycra in a move to go ‘Full Christmas’, with Aldi aiming to lead a fun respite from the realities of 2020.

The integrated campaign will run on TV with longer formats running online, and is supported by radio, OOH, catalogue, in-store POS, website and social.

It will also be live across a series of 15″ retail spots focussing on Aldi’s great prices across its range of Christmas products.

Aldi creative directors Dantie van der Merwe and David Fraser said it felt like a good year for the world to discover Santa was secretly a synchronised swimmer.

“The world seemed in need of a ridiculous escape, so it felt like a good time to reveal Santa’s hidden talents,” they said.

General manager Paul Coles said the campaign was about showing Aussies they can still “go large” this Christmas by shopping at Aldi.

“This Christmas, more than any other, demands a gifting and gourmet extravaganza. With an exceptional festive range, at Aldi prices, you can definitely go large this Christmas,” he said.
