Sydney radio ratings: Breakfast battle tightens as KiisFM’s Kyle & Jackie O edge towards Alan Jones
KiisFM’s Kyle & Jackie O have finished the year on a high, posting a 12.1% audience share, the duo’s second-highest share since their move to Kiis FM.
The duo climbed one ratings point from last survey, winning FM breakfast and edging closer to Macquarie Media’s 2GB breakfast with Alan Jones, which fell 0.5 points to a 13.3% share.
Kyle & Jackie O’s 12.1% share is also the second highest since joining KiisFM. In survey one of 2016, the duo posted a 12.5% share – its highest since joining the network.
Meanwhile, ARN’s WSFM breakfast with Jonesy & Amanda came in second on the FM bandwidth, despite dipping 0.7 points to a 10% share.
Triple M’s Grill Team with Gus Worland, Mark Geyer, Matthew Johns, Chris Page and Emma Freedman, climbed 0.7 points, putting the breakfast show in third place among the FM stations.
The result is a strong finish for Geyer, who is set to depart at the end of the year.
Meanwhile, Nova96.9’s Fitzy & Wippa finished with a share of 7.4%, while Smooth FM took a 0.5 point loss, taking its share to 6.5%.
SCA’s 2DayFM Em Rusciano Radio Show with Harley Breen finished the year with a 2.8% share, down 0.1 points from last survey. The pair finished the year a week before the official survey period after Breen announced he was leaving the show.
It ends a challenging year for the duo, who started the year on a 4% audience share. Breen will be replaced in the new year with Ed Kavalee and Grant Denyer. The show has been rebranded to 2DayFM Breakfast with Em, Grant & Ed.
In drive, KiisFM’s Hughesy & Kate finished their last survey of the year on a high, up 0.2 ratings points to become the biggest drive show for the survey.
The duo – who will join SCA’s Hit network in 2018 – defeated Nova’s Kate, Tim & Marty, who posted modest growth, despite finishing two weeks early. Kate, Tim & Marty climbed 0.4 points to a 10.3%, concluding the year in second place.
WSFM and Smooth FM battled it out for third and fourth place, posting shares of 8.8% and 8.1% respectively.
Over to SCA’s 2DayFM, and long-standing drive show hosts Hamish & Andy topped off the year with a 5.5% share, up 0.5 points from the last survey.
Despite leaving at the end of the year, the duo confirmed last week they would continue to work with SCA to deliver a new podcast series.
Triple M’s share was 5.4%.
ARN has polished off a strong year in Sydney with KiisFM and WSFM placing first and second overall among the FM stations.
KiisFM finished the year with a 9.9% share, up 0.4 points from survey seven, while WSFM came in second at a 9.7% share.
KiisFM’s growth came at the same time as a fall for Macquarie Media’s 2GB, which, despite remaining the number one station in Sydney, fell 0.5 points to an 11.3% share – the exact same result as this time last year. The share is one of 2GB’s lowest in the last decade.
Back on the FM bandwidth in third place was Smooth FM, up 0.3 points to 8.6%, while Nova96.9 dipped 0.1 points to a share of 7.5%, finishing fourth at the end of the year.
Triple M saw a modest amount of growth, climbing 0.7 points to a share of 6.2%. Meanwhile SCA’s 2dayFM remained relatively stagnant, up 0.1 points to a total share of 3.9%.
ABC 702 still gettling flogged by 2GB every single timeslot, despite the advantage of being advert free.
