The announcement:
BookPeople, the association representing Australian booksellers, today announced bestselling authors Tara Moss and Megan Hess as the 2025 Adult and Children’s author ambassadors for its national Love Your Bookshop Day (LYBD) campaign, tasked with sharing the magic of local bookshops ahead of the big day on Saturday 11 October.
This year’s theme – Discover the magic. Discover you. – celebrates the constant role bookshops play in a person’s reading journey. The campaign aims to reignite Australians’ love of reading and remind people that, at every stage of life, local bookshops are places of discovery, inspiration and connection.
“Books aren’t simply an escape, they’re a powerful tool for self-discovery, and there is nowhere like a bookshop for meeting the next stage of your evolution”, said Moss, award-winning human rights advocate, holistic practitioner and bestselling author of 15 novels, most recently The Italian Secret.
“Bookshops have been there for me my entire life. My youngest memories are of those thrilling first steps into a bookshop to choose a picture book. Then in primary school, I was onto chapter books – feeling so very grown up. Then as a teenager my visits to bookshops lead me to the art section where I would pour over art history coffee table books and get lost in their beautiful pages. Today I still visit books stores with the same excitement I had when I was 5 years old. Bookstores have been there for me every step of the way and it’s my mission to make sure they never disappear,” said Hess, internationally acclaimed fashion illustrator and bestselling author of over 2 million books, most recently Claris: Dazzling Diamond Egg – adding to the beloved Claris series – and Louis Vuitton: The Illustrated World of a Fashion Icon.
BookPeople CEO, Robbie Egan, said, “We’re still on a high following our reveal of Emma Sjaan Beukers as the illustrator behind this year’s campaign artwork. Now we have two outstanding Australian authors who have achieved global success joining us as ambassadors and champions of local bookshops. We are very excited.”
To further capture the lifelong value of bookshops, BookPeople is inviting Australians to share their stories of self-discovery in local bookshops – whether it was meeting a partner among the shelves, finding solace during a difficult time after a chat with a bookseller, or stumbling upon a book that changed their life.
