TBWA Sydney elevates Sebastian Revell to head of strategy

TBWA Sydney has promoted Sebastian Revell to head of strategy alongside a number of new appointments to the agency’s strategy department.

Revell joined TBWA Sydney in 2019 as strategy director, before moving into the group strategy director role in 2021. He currently leads strategy for Tourism New Zealand and Hort Innovation at the agency, and is also a mentor for The Trenches and facilitates Ad School’s strategic planning course.

Prior to TBWA, Revell held roles across media and creative agencies, as well as client side, having spent time at Naked Communications, Saatchi and Saatchi Sydney, Publicis London, ITV, PHD and the BBC.

In the new role, he will lead the direction and output of TBWA Sydney’s strategy department across all disciplines, including brand, social and connections strategy.

Matt Springate, chief strategy officer of TBWA Australia and New Zealand, said: “I’m thrilled that Seb has the opportunity to lead such a talented team and this new role is recognition of his unique skillset and leadership style.”

Alexandra Nel has also joined the agency in October from Leo Burnett, to head up the development and integration of connections strategy as connections strategy director.

Nel spent six and a half years at Leos, most recently in a connections strategy director role, having worked with brands like Suncorp, Bundaberg Rum, Sweat and Bonds.

“I’m delighted to be joining TBWA Sydney at a time of creative momentum and am grateful to lead the connections planning offering, helping to shape brand ideas and experiences with connected thinking across all touchpoints,” said Nel.

The strategy offering at TBWA will also be bolstered by new hires Callum James and Olivia Cham, who join as senior strategist and strategist, respectively.

James joins from R/GA and was previously insights lead at big red, while Olivia has relocated from Singapore, where she worked in social, digital and brand strategy at The Secret Little Agency.

Revell added: “It’s great to move into this role but I’m even more excited to be building a collaborative and multi-disciplined team, where together we can build truly disruptive, connected and effective ideas for our clients. Alex, Callum and Olivia are great additions to the team and they are already making us, and our work better.”

Last month TBWA/Sydney won creative and PR for coffee brand Moccona, two month’s after the agency was appointed to handle creative for Pernod Ricard’s global wine portfolio.
