Telstra to close Sportsfan at the end of the month

Telstra has shuttered its sport editorial platform Sportsfan, with the website, mobile site and app to cease operations on October 31.

The closure was announced in a post on the website: “Telstra has a long history of quality digital sports coverage and Sportsfan has proudly carried that tradition across all sports our Australian audience love. Unfortunately, the decision has been made to discontinue the Sportsfan brand.

“The editorial staff at Sportsfan have endeavoured to bring you sports coverage with an entertaining and thought-provoking edge. Through our articles and videos we hope we have added to your enjoyment of your favourite sports over the years.”

The post went on to thank Sportsfan’s “loyal reeaders” and “the many regular contributors to our comments sections”.

A Telstra spokesman told Mumbrella: “The Sportsfan platform will cease operating on October 31, 2016. Telstra has a strong passion for sport and will continue to provide Australians will access to some of the best live sport on mobile through partnerships with NRL, AFL, Netball and NBL.”

It is not clear if there are any redundancies as a result of the closure.

Sportsfan launched in 2012, with the Sportsfan app launched in in April 2013.
