Ten to air Adam Goodes documentary, The Final Quarter
Ten has announced it will air the much-lauded Adam Goodes documentary, The Final Quarter.
The film, which premiered at the Sydney Film Festival in June, will air on both Ten and the WIN Network.
The documentary is credited with forcing the AFL’s hand to issue a formal apology regarding its neglect over the treatment of Goodes by AFL spectators and media personalities.
It follows the Sydney Swans captain, two-time Brownlow Medalist and 2014 Australian of the Year through the final seasons of his career, during which time he was subjected to racially-driven abuse by AFL fans which was not publicly condemned by the code.
Using archival footage, The Final Quarter allows audiences to reconsider the events of Goodes’ career and examine the fallout on his life and the AFL.
The Final Quarter is a Shark Island Productions film and directed by award-winning filmmaker Ian Darling. It is the first of two documentaries based around Goodes’ experiences with racism during his AFL career.
The second of the films, The Australian Dream, will premiere at the Melbourne International Film Festival on August 1. Written by journalist Stan Grant, it focuses on the vitriol faced by Goodes and the wider effect on Indigenous players since then.
Ten has not yet announced the air date for The Final Quarter.
Glad to hear this will get a wider airing.
I was at the first game, and saw the event and reactions first hand, which was bad enough. But it was sickening to see how he was vilified and completely unsupported by many at the heart of the game for so long afterwards, arguably cutting a legendary career too short.
This is the kind of thing Ten needs to do more now, take bold brave leaps, even if it means challenging or alienating some.

agree… Goodesy’s a legend on and off the field. Let’s hope this is a tipping point for racism in sport. And let’s hope 10 airs it in Western Australia.

So pleased this is going to air. It should be compulsory viewing. Unfortunately though I think that those people who really should watch and learn from it are so entrenched in their racist views they will choose not to watch it.

REALLY? Just another chance to be in the spotlight. You made your bed now lay in it. I’m not saying what was said to you was right but you weren’t innocent as pie either. The main thing is you reacted the way you did at the time you did so deal with it. No need for explanations, man up and put up. Chances are you’re only going to make it worse for yourself, unless you take the pity route in which case there is really something wrong going on in that head .

Yes Adam. How dare you stand up for yourself! Just put up with racism. I am guessing it is something D Jackson has never experienced.

He didn’t make the film – it was made ABOUT him. There’s a difference.

I found that Adam’s behaviour the spear into the crowd offensive. I thought it was a controversial and rather aggresive action.
I would have found it really offensive if l was in the crowd. And his crap about the kid in the crowd. Well l am sorry. He is trying to incite racism. He is asking to amplify any degree of his perception of what he thinks. Whether it is there or not.
He is provoking rasicsm that may not have been there. As Australian of the year and a high paid footballer, and an Australian icon, he still believes, he is despised because he os indigenous. Ridiculous.

Well done Adam Goodes you are a legend. You need to stand up to bullies otherwise they think it’s ok to be stupid.
I admire your strength and what you stand for. You are not alone.
You give me strength.
Racism stops now. Those who don’t believe it is racism are morons and yet to be educated. They will only realise this when it happens to them personally.

MIMING! throwing a spear is an integral part of the an indigenous dance; what on earth do we think the Maoris are doing n the Haka!!!
There is no need to amplify racism in this country because it is very alive and well, and no one provokes it ,it is part of the Australian culture. Why do we continually want to look away from things from which we could learn; its heartbreaking
