Tennis Australia appoints Clemenger BBDO Melbourne as creative agency of record

Clemenger BBDO Melbourne has announced it has been appointed Tennis Australia’s creative agency of record.

As part of its creative duties for Australia’s governing tennis body, Clemenger BBDO will be responsible for brand strategy, growing audience participation, launching the ATP Cup and taking on creative leadership of the Australian Open.

In mid-2018, the rights to broadcast the tennis on free-to-air TV changed hands from Seven to Nine, at a cost of $48.5m. Nine now holds the exclusive rights to broadcast the game in Australia until 2024.

Tennis Australia’s chief insights and marketing officer Josie Brown, who was hired in September last year, said: “This process and appointment comes at a pivotal time for tennis in Australia.

“I’m looking forward to working with the team at Clemenger BBDO to apply brilliant creativity to how we present our brand, grow our game, and connect fans to tennis experiences.”

This year, the Australian Open men’s final attracted 1.6m metro viewers on Nine, while 1.1m metro viewers tuned into the women’s final.

Clemenger BBDO Melbourne’s managing director, Simon Lamplough, said: “We’re delighted to be partnering with the team at Tennis Australia and bringing fresh thinking to such an iconic brand and sport.

“The ongoing success of the Australian Open is remarkable and we have some incredibly strong foundations to build from.”

The win adds to the agency’s recent success in retaining Victoria’s Transport Accident Commission account following a competitive tender.
